  2. Too easy for me though I still missed 4 cos I couldn't be bothered pondering who it was (knew it was one of those actors who's made the superhero leap; I don't really follow superhero franchises) and had to think a bit about 10 (for me that's a question about California rather than about Oz).

    2. As if.

I can't resist adding that there's a little bit of show-biz historical demographics in your choices of Kylie and Hemsworth. Kylie is about the last generation of show-biz types who made the jump to the UK to further her international career. These days (like the Hemsworths, who also came out of Oz soaps) they generally make a bee-line for LA.

That seems to me an symptom of the attenuation of Australia's onetime "mother country" relationship with the UK. This was a long time coming - Australia's turn to the USA as its protector after the fall of Singapore was one pivot point. Later, it was the "mother" who rejected her offspring when she ran off with the EU, though preceding cutting of the apron-strings to Commonwealth citizens of one type or another in the 1960s also responded to "rivers of blood"-type opposition to, no real dodging of this possible, "darkie" immigrants. "Whitey" Australians were maybe bycatch in this, though truth to tell, Mum had probably lost interest in her offspring anyway.

Which probably means this is a topic of more interest to me than to you.

    1. Australians should get 10/10 on this quiz! Not 9/10!

  6. Amazingly, I got five right. No idea about the actor, or the size of population and comparison with California, and I know there is a song called Waltzing Matilda, but to my knowledge, I have never heard it, let alone know the lyrics.

  10. I got 7 out of 10 correct. I actually knew the last one as I was in Australia back in 2011 (I think) and the tour director held up a map of Australia overlaying a map of the USA. She made us realize just how big Australia is.

  12. 7/10 and 2 were lucky guesses. Out of curiosity, I did look up the words you mentioned in the "Waltzing Matilda" question and learned some local lingo. Also, Australia related but not to your quiz, I have made ANZAC biscuits. Enjoy your day!
