On Wednesday, Little Phoebe was having dinner at our house. Spoon control was shared between my wife and the little princess herself. In the picture above you can see how she's tucking in to her dessert - banana slices in custard.
I chuckled as I observed how much dinner had missed the cake hole. This is best seen in the next picture where evidence of her earlier lasagne bake can be seen on her nose, chin, cheeks and forehead.
It is to be hoped that by the time she reaches adulthood she will be able to hit the target with more precision.
She remains such a joy, brightening our lives as she progresses day by day. We are so privileged to see her so often and to play a significant role in her care and development. Sometimes we ache with love.
My mom always said grandkids were the best because you could spoil them all day long and then send them home.
ReplyDeleteI know you’ve been busy and probably missed both posts but I was curious to see if you had ever been to Scapegoat Hill?

I have never been to Scapegoat Hill. I will check out those posts later.
DeleteThis brings me back to the days when I had a couple of little beaners where eating was a challenge. They make up for it when they're teenagers.
ReplyDeleteDo you ever dribble down your chin when eating Mr K?
DeleteThat girl has the most amazing eyes. She is blessed to have you two as grandparents. I enjoy watching Jack develop and grow. It seems like I never had time with my own children, always too busy doing laundry and doing dishes. I'm not in such a rush anymore.
ReplyDeleteWe are rediscovering many things we had forgotten.
DeleteBanana custard is a huge favorite in our household. Pleased to see someone else enjoying it too.
ReplyDeleteWho wants fancy stuff when you can have bananas and custard?
DeleteI would say gorgeous but that last photo is a bit yucky;) I am so glad that your granddaughter Phoebe gives both of you so much happiness.
ReplyDeleteHow dare you say Phoebe is yucky!
DeleteShe is handling that spoon very well. I love it when they learn to feed themselves, but the cleanup isn't always such fun. I did have one child who loved his food so much he never spilled any.
ReplyDeleteWaste not want not.
DeleteI love that last photo of you demonstrating how it should be done.
ReplyDeleteShoulda gone to Specsavers!
DeleteI could never cope with my kids being covered in food.....they were wiped down after every mouthful!!
ReplyDeletePoor little mites! Shirley tends to zoom in from behind when the meal is done singing, "This the way we clean her face, clean her face, clean her face..."
DeleteBanana and custard. One of my comfort foods. Do you eat like that after a couple of pints. Maybe Phoebe is copying you!
ReplyDeleteUp North we all eat like that because we are uncouth.
DeleteAs what age were you able to hit the target with more precision. 21? 42? 65? or still hoping?
ReplyDeleteI could eat daintily with a knife and fork as soon as I left the womb.
DeleteSorry, I wasn't referring to feeding.
DeleteVulgar fellow!
DeleteI am sure she will soon master the art of handling a spoon, then fork and eventually knife.
ReplyDeleteAdmittedly, I am still something of a messy eater with certain foods, especially the juicier fruits such as watermelon, oranges and mango.
I know I should not say this but the image of watermelon and mango juice running down a German lady's chin is rather erotic.
DeleteI hope I get to be a Grammie one day. Thanks for sharing those delightful pictures of little Phoebe.
ReplyDeleteIf you write a good song you could win a Grammy Melinda!
DeleteSo Phoebe is left-handed? Many of my favorite people, including Mr. Moon are. Or is she just figuring that out too? What a little beauty she is.
ReplyDeleteWell spotted Mary! We would prefer her to be right-handed but there's no way of changing her instinctive route. Sometimes she does lead with the right.
DeleteI think that a disproportionate number of our presidents have been left-handed. I know that Barack Obama is. That's good enough for me.
DeleteBananas and custard sounds like our banana pudding! I'll bet Phoebe would love that...it's merely Nilla Wafers, banana creme pudding, and sliced bananas layered in a deep dish and served very cold. It's one of Gregg's favorite desserts.
ReplyDeletePhoebe sure is cute, and she's growing fast.
My favourite desert is The Kalahari.
DeleteI've seen worse :) Phoebe is growing fast.
ReplyDeleteThat is what eating does to people Jenny!
DeleteHow sweet! Someday when she is a teenager, you will share these photos with her and you will both laugh and laugh! You are creating such loving memories!
ReplyDeleteShe will become a teenager in twelve years. If I am alive then I will be eighty. Somehow I doubt that I will be around.
DeleteI hope to still be around at eighty when my twin grands will be eleven. I hope to live longer and see them grow up.
ReplyDeleteYes. That would be lovely - for you and for them too!
DeleteI'm a south paw! Little Phoebe is cute as a button. Those blue eyes are stunning.
ReplyDeleteWomen's boxing has certainly grown in popularity but I never realised that you were pugnacious!
DeleteI'm now having problems with blogger who insists that there is a problem publishing my comments. This started a couple of days ago after Microsoft did their latest updates.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they think you are a virus!
DeleteIt must be super disappointing for Phoebe when the food misses the target! :)
ReplyDeleteAll that concentration and effort and then the food slips off the spoon!
DeleteLove the first two photos - she looks so cute. Better that you don't decide to show her the last one when she's celebrating a significant future birthday and is surrounded by all her friends!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are speaking from experience Carol. Did your father embarrass you like that?
