Excellent video. I wish I could produce something like that. I wonder when they will get the scaffolding down from York Minster it has been there since the middle ages.
ReplyDeleteTo make a video like that you will need a helicopter Adrian. Islamic State have a few to spare but you will need to fly to northern Iraq to barter for one. While you are there please tell those lads to get a proper job! Maybe they could become scaffolders and rebuild Palmyra.
DeleteI suspect a microlight would do. Helicopters are too expensive and they vibrate a lot.
DeletePS. What has IS got to do with the West Window of York Minster. Ten pounds to enter one would think that the C of E would spend that on propping it up properly. If for nothing else than for the glorification of god. Happen better if it collapses. The old masons rarely got it wrong but in this case they did fail to identify a bit of soggy ground. No define intervention here.

ReplyDeleteI've seen this video before; Anna Lupton who runs a B&B in Ampleforth has posted it on her blog some time in the spring, when my sister and I were planning our annual Yorkshire holiday.
To answer the question the video asks at the end, "When are you coming?": On August 16th!

ReplyDeleteBut even before seeing it, I have wanted to come to Yorkshire for 35 years, ever since someone said I was the best thing he had seen since the York Minster.
I have to see my rival, you see.
Although that was a long time ago. Now if he encountered me, he might say, "you are the best thing I've seen since the small, moldy, tumble-down church just outside Feathers Bottom."
As an aside, it now costs £10 to enter York Minster. Of course living in Sheffield we are at the southern edge of Yorkshire - not in its heart. We are little more than a mile from the Derbyshire border where I am a volunteer border guard. I have my own camouflage gear and a machine gun called Tommy.

DeleteThat was a wonderful video. I would like to see all those places and buildings and "your" sea and walk those trails with you and Mrs. Pudding. Believe it or not, it is Colorado Day today. As a state, Colorado is 134 years old but of course, the land and the First People were here centuries before that.

DeleteCertainly one of my favourite parts of my beloved England especially the Dales but then there is still quite a bit of Yorkshire that we have not explored. It's on my list to return but there is so much to see in Europe and it is a costly expedition from Oz. pity we colonials are no longer welcome for longer than six months, staying for a year would be a wonderful experience ( if the finances could stretch ). BTW the Minster was completely bare inside when we visited. Not a stick of furniture . Must have been something planned for the huge space I guess.
ReplyDeleteHelen- maybe you should have visited Beverley Minster instead of York. Having attended Beverley Grammar School that is "The Minster" I know best. And I totally share your annoyance about Aussie visits to Britain. Most of us want you far more than Eastern Europeans with whom we have no shared heritage.

ReplyDeleteSeriously, plenty of nice green fields and whatnot, but a bit more of Yorkshire (or South Yorks at least)'s industrial heritage would have shown it to be more like the Yorkshire I know and love.
Are you totally sure that Barnsley is in Yorkshire? I thought it was a Lancashire mill town.

DeleteThe film was superb as was the music as is the geography of Yorkshire. It's a shame that there wasn't a Yorkshire composer and they had to use a Norwegian one.
ReplyDeleteNorway and Denmark are where the ancients of Yorkshire came from Graham. We have so many place names of Scandinavian origin. It seemed appropriate to allow a little known Norwegian some welcome exposure.
