Shirley got a message from my younger brother Simon. He had just been watching the popular late afternoon quiz show - "Tipping Point" hosted by Ben Shephard. Apparently there had been a question about "Bosh!"
With some difficulty I located the show via the ITV catch up service. It was in the second section that Ben Shephard asked smiley contestant Naureen this: "In 2019, vegan chefs Henry Firth and Ian Theasby published a recipe book that had a three word title - "Bish! Bash!..." and?"
Naureen said "Bosh!" which was of course correct.
Then I turned to Ian and said, "That's bloody amazing! Forget everything else that "Bosh!" have achieved. Having a question asked about you on 'Tipping Point' is the pinnacle. Things don't get any better than this!"
Ian and Henry have just published their seventh book. It is called "Bosh! On a Budget". It is packed with wallet-friendly recipes, including one for a chocolate bar named after me - 'Neil's Tiger Bar'! Can you believe it? I haven't made it yet but I will be doing real soon. I am sure it will be delicious!
In other "Bosh!" news, I am proud to let you know that over all they have now sold more than a million vegan recipe books. This is truly awesome
Ian is sleeping now - upstairs in his old room with his lovely girlfriend and we are off to The Crucible theatre on Wednesday afternoon to see a musical called "She Loves Me". Unfortunately, the evening football match that we also have tickets for has been called off because of COVID amongst the players.
For me, Sheffield United versus Hull City is a home match and I was so looking forward to it. My good friend Tony was going to drive over for it from East Yorkshire but that plan has now been scuppered. Bloody, horrible, nasty, shitty, tiresome, annoying, blasted, bloody COVID! I am heartily sick of it. Perhaps I have reached my own "tipping point"!
Ian just keeps on surprising his dad. Congratulations to Ian. Covid? I wonder how much more fed up we are gong to have to get?
ReplyDeleteLet's hope there are no more serious "variants" and that COVID is put back in its cage by next Christmas.
DeleteI feel the same about Covid. My boyfriend has some kind of illness and who knows what it is. What I DO know is that it's nearly impossible to get tested around here, probably partly due to our current horrible weather. That is quite an honor to be named on a show! What is in your bar?
ReplyDeleteMy bar is packed with nuts and raisins and lots of other good stuff including chocolate but it looks like a turd!
DeleteYour son is doing very well and you must be very proud of him. To have a question related to you on a quiz show is quite something. I think we are all heartily sick of covid by now -it's coming up to the second anniversary I think we are all heartily sick of covid now- we we thought it was going to be done and dusted in a few months. Little did we know.
ReplyDeleteWill it last forever?
DeleteOh my, a question on Tipping Point! I usually watch it but missed that one, I would have been so thrilled. Those boys are certainly doing well.Even I feel proud of them!
ReplyDeleteQ. Which famous blog commenter lives in Harpenden with a mishievous little dog and works in the local Oxfam as a shop assistant?
DeleteA. Theresa May?
My partner watches Tipping Point. I don't understand it all from the little I've seen.
ReplyDeleteA chocolate bar called Neal does not entice me. I am impressed the question was asked.
We are all so fed up. By the time we can travel freely, we will be too old to travel, well my partner will be.
Your Root mate didn't do too well down under, did he.
Root did better than the others. Congratulations to Australia!
DeleteI absolutely loathe all these TV games - I sometimes watch once, then never again! The trailers are enough to have me reaching to change channels! However good for Henry and Ian to have become so well known that they feature as questions!
ReplyDeleteAs to your continual moans about Covid, yes, we're all sick and tired of it YP., but apart from following the rules as best we can in the hope of hastening it's demise, there's not a lot we can do. Oh, except keep away from places where crowds gather - like the theatre, clubs and football matches! Are you working on the assumption that you won't be at risk?
Have you stopped to wonder how people who are still suffering from the after-effects of the virus must feel?
I thought you knew me better than that Carol. Of course I think of those who have suffered and continue to suffer but mostly I think of the people who have been lost to COVID and the grieving families who have been left behind. My cousin John died from COVID just before Christmas.
DeleteYou're not the only one, Neil. For many here, having reached that tipping point means they have turned to the streets , joining protests with sometimes violent clashes and police injured. It is scary, even more scary than the virus, I think.
ReplyDeleteAnyway - that's great news about Bosh!
And I am glad that both Ian and Sarah are well, and were now able to join you even though they could not be there at Christmas.
He is in our kitchen as I write, making another Bosh! recipe video with Sarah as his assistant.
DeleteYou have to post the link to that video, so that we can catch glimpses of your kitchen! (And see Ian and Sarah, of course.) Will you be walking through in the back?
DeleteSince 2005, a celebrity from Sheffield has regularly been writing a blog. It's called "Yorkshire ......."?
ReplyDeleteMemoir?
DeleteCongratulations to the lads.
ReplyDeleteTa Dave!
DeleteI think eventually we will all have had covid in one form or another.
ReplyDeleteIan is making his old man proud, isn't he? And best of all- you have the satisfaction of seeing your son doing so well in the world with his own wits and talents and desire to make the world a better place. That is an astounding and beautiful thing.
He is doing something that is essentially good and it is also creative. These factors certainly boost my pride in him.
DeleteWow! That DOES seem pretty impressive, being a question on a gameshow! A good barometer of cultural relevance, for sure. :)
ReplyDeleteIt is quite incredible Steve. Nobody has ever asked a question concerning me in a TV quiz show and I am pretty sure they never will.
DeleteCovid won't go away but the variants will become less dangerous and one day it will just be another bug we pick up. Back in 1918, Spanish Flu was a new disease, like covid has been. The pandemic lasted 2-3 years and flu became dangerous only to the most compromised people.
ReplyDeleteBosh on a Budget is a great project for tough financial times
Thanks for your measured thoughts on COVID Kylie.
