The Gulf of America is a
Gulf between bombast and reality, a
Gulf between classes and states, a
Gulf where reason should be, a
Gulf between political camps, a
Gulf between soup kitchens and country clubs, a
Gulf between truth and falsehood, a
Gulf of dreams turned to nightmares, a
Gulf between urban and rural, a
Gulf between classes and states, a
Gulf where reason should be, a
Gulf between political camps, a
Gulf between soup kitchens and country clubs, a
Gulf between truth and falsehood, a
Gulf of dreams turned to nightmares, a
Gulf between urban and rural, a
Gulf between oligarchs and workers, a
Gulf dyed with lies and accusation, a
Gulf in perspectives, a
Gulf between arrogance and humility, a
Gulf dyed with lies and accusation, a
Gulf in perspectives, a
Gulf between arrogance and humility, a
Gulf between yesteryear and today, a
Gulf between substance and hollowness, a
Gulf that separates wisdom from lunacy, a
Gulf of fear, not hope - that's
The Gulf of America.
It’s the gulf between truth and falsehood that gets me, every bloody time.
ReplyDeleteEverything is tospy turvy in Trumpworld.
DeleteYour poetic riff on the Gulfs of MAGA America is absolutely inspired!
ReplyDeleteSo kind of you to say that Debra and thanks for even reading it.
DeleteThere is definitely a gulf between rich and poor countries.
ReplyDeleteThere's a gulf between Dooneen Pier and Dumanus Castle.
DeleteIt's a nothing space, like that between The Felon's ears.
ReplyDeleteSuch true words here. A gulf of separation, with the rich, white, have more than they need people on one side and everyone else on the other, those that haven't yet been deported that is.
ReplyDeleteGood one.
ReplyDeleteYep. You summed it up nicely, Neil. Sad but true.
ReplyDeleteI got to march in a protest yesterday evening with many, many people chanting, "Hey, hey, ho, ho, Donald Trump has got to go!" and "This is what democracy looks like."
You can hear me clapping. Well said.
ReplyDeleteThe gulf is in that orange buffoon's head.
ReplyDeleteWell said. A gulf indeed.
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of enjambment.
ReplyDeletePS: I understand the punch-line reasons for abandoning the enjambment at the last line but personally I would keep it up to the end.
DeleteStill, it's your pome.
All true, sadly, and a good way to present our current divisions.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite clever and quite true, overall. I will say the gulf between urban and rural is a broad generalization. I know folks in both areas (myself included) who don't fit the assumption.
ReplyDeleteWell done, YP. And it's not just a Gulf, which is big enough on its own, it's an immense Gulf.
ReplyDeleteExcellent observation YP. However I don't care what Trump or Google want to call it, to me it's still the Gulf of Mexico, and always will be!
ReplyDeleteI'll never call it The Gulf of America. Also, I appreciate your use of whitespace.
