The other day, a visitor reminded me that a new "Quiztime" post was long overdue so here we are. 7/10. I wasn't convinced it was Princess Margaret until I enlarged the photo and it became immediately obvious.
ReplyDeleteShe was 71 when she died.
DeleteJanis Joplin Princess Margaret Coco Chanel Emily Bronte Benazir Bhutto
ReplyDeleteEva Braun Rosa Parks ... I mistook Betty Rubble for Wilma Flintstone.
Rosa Parks and Emily Bronte are the two women here I would like to have met.
Rosa was attacked and robbed in her home in 1994 at the age of 81.
Emily was 30 when she died.
There has been speculation as to whether she had started a second novel.
In her second novel the heroine meets a Scottish vagrant who is crossing the moors in his rough kilt and raging at the thunderous skies above as he necks neat Islay whisky from an old hip flask. She invites him to take shelter in a nearby sheep barn where she asks him his name. "Tis Jack," he growls, "Jack McHaggerty. What is thine lass?"
Delete"I'm Lulu," she whispers. "I thought ye might recognise me from the Gorbals."
An Islay Single Malt. A double Quarter Gill. A little sparkling water.
DeleteLagavulin. Laphroaig. Ardnahoe. Bruichladdich. Names like music.
Lulu ? She'd have my cojones. Maryam D'Abo. She survived a stroke.
Barbara Flynn. The Beiderbecke Connection : YouTube. 1988.
Series written by Alan Plater who lived in Hull, a friend of Stan Barstow.
TV drama had a different beat then. Slower. Whimsical. Human.
I won't tell you how "Haggerty Heights" ends. It would be just too upsetting for you. By the way, I have discovered that Tasker Dunham's real name is Robert Ward. I miss the old duffer but I am fearful too.
DeleteEric Blair. George Orwell.
DeleteRobert Ward. Tasker Dunham.
I wondered if you two had ever met.
There is no hard & fast rule about meeting fellow bloggers.
I would choose not to.
Cyberspace is a legendary world. Distance is the enchantment.
*I never said it was always wrong to enter fairyland. I only said it was
always dangerous.*
GK Chesterton. The Innocence of Father Brown.
I missed three, so a 7/10. That just doesn't look like Princess Margaret to me, though what do I know?
ReplyDeleteYou know that Little Rock is your state capital.
DeleteI got these right: Valentina Tereshkova, Princess Margaret, Benazir Bhutto, Eva Braun, Florence Griffith Joyner, Rosa Parks

I will come back to that Pradeep. It sounds quite heavy and I am ready for bed.
Delete9--I thought Eva Braun was Margaret Thatcher. My bad.
ReplyDeleteAs did Debra below. Maybe Eva Braun escaped from the Berlin bunker and fled to Grantham, Lincolnshire.
DeleteThe only one I missed was Eva Braun. Do I get a half point for thinking the portrait was of a young Margaret Thatcher? An argument can be made, lol.
ReplyDeleteI agree. An argument certainly can be made for that confusion!
Delete9/10 and six of those were guesses. I knew Princess Margaret, Rosa Parks and Betty Rubble for sure.
ReplyDeleteExcellent performance Elsie!
DeletePrincess Meike got them all right, each and everyone of them. Hooray!!
ReplyDelete(By the way, the lack of specs on Margaret's beautiful face was the clue for me, otherwise I would have gone for Meike, of course.)
Princess Meike was a trick option as she is a fictional princess who lives on a castle made of clouds, far above The Earth.
DeleteOne wrong.
ReplyDeleteGood girl! Well done!
DeleteI did better than I thought, as several were guesses....7/10 ! Didn't get 4,6 or 10.
ReplyDeleteNever mind. I am sure you did your best.
Delete8 out of 10. Numbers 2 and 8 were my downfall.
ReplyDeleteEight ain't too shabby gal.
DeleteAt first glance, the only one I recognised was Betty Rubble! ;) Going through the alternatives given, I managed six more, though...
ReplyDeleteSorry there were no famous Swedish women in there - like Zara Larsson or Selma Lagerlöf.
DeleteI think this may be my best score ever on one of these, 9 out of 10 correct. I missed Coco Chanel, with the red lipstick, I thought Estee Lauder.
ReplyDeleteYou should have asked your live-in carer - Nurse James. I bet he would have known. Never be afraid to ask for help David.
Delete1. Clueless.
ReplyDelete2, Janis Joplin.
3.Princess Margaret
4. Coco; twas the pearls that gave it away.
5. Emily Bronte
6.Benazir Bhutto; matter of elimination.
7. That Braun Woman
8. Florence Griffith Joyner
9. Rosa Parks, a hero of mine I would recognize anywhere.
10. Mrs. Betty Rubble.
What a shame you didn't know Valentina Tereshkova with you being a commie and all!
Delete10/10 My heart swells with self-respect...
ReplyDeleteWell done James!
DeleteWhen I saw the photograph of Eva Braun I was immediately reminded of my late mother-in-law. I showed it to Barry and he said it was his mother. 😧First impressions only, you understand, though he's been told he speaks very good German. 😀
ReplyDeleteI am surprised that you got hooked up with Hitler's secret son.
Delete10/10 for me.... but if it wasn't multiple choice and I actually had to search my tiny brain for the answer, I would not have done so well.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't need the second part Shammy! Just boast like a current American president. "Ten out of ten - I am a genius!"
DeleteI got 10 out of 10, though I did have a moment of doubt in which I thought Eva Braun might be Mamie Eisenhower!
ReplyDeleteWell done Steve! You are a clever young man!
DeleteI only got 2 wrong which is very good for me! :)
ReplyDeleteA fine effort Ellen! Well done!
Delete10/10 with the multiple choice 9.5/10 without - couldn’t remember Valentina’s surname
ReplyDeleteYour brilliance is like The North Star Traveller - showing other bloggers the way to go.
