Pondering

Cliffe tower block in Stannington on Tuesday morning

I have noticed that a few of my favourite bloggers have been taking  a rest from blogging. Maybe I should do the same.

I have got some things on my mind tonight. Something unpleasant happened today and it has got under my skin. I need a little time to process it and think about how to respond, hoping that the unpleasantness goes no further. I may tell you about it soon.

In other Yorkshire Pudding news, Shirley and I are heading to Amsterdam on Friday morning - thence to a town north of Amsterdam called Hoorn. We will be flying from Humberside Airport - the flight is only an hour long - across The North Sea.

I confess I am a bit anxious about driving a hire car out of busy Schipol Airport but no doubt I will manage it.

We are only staying for two nights. Back on Monday evening. I may tell you the reason for this little expedition tomorrow.

Now back to my glass of red wine and more pondering about what happened.

  1. An hour's flight over the German Ocean (as the North Sea was called) will
calm you down, Neil. Time out in Amsterdam & Hoorn with Shirley is a tonic.

You will learn to process the bad experience.
Mark Twain said nobody is sane at 3 a.m. The long dark night of the soul,
as Scott Fitzgerald described it in his prophetic essay, The Crack-Up.

I only feel depressed if I don't get enough sleep. I wish I had known
about brain chemistry when I was young, not that I did anything crazy.

Cliffe & Woodland Towers. My cousin Jim who's over 90 said there are
no bad places, only bad people. Damaged people.
Jim did his National Service like his brother Alec. Successful businessmen.

  2. Well, that's a cliffhanger, and I know very well why people visit Amsterdam for a couple of days.

  4. Bloggers come and go, some are more reliable than others and kindly let their readers know when they intend to take a break or are away for a while with no access to blogging, while others simply seem to drop off the planet, leaving their blogging friends worried. But of course every blogger decides for him or herself, and if you feel the need for a break, then you do just that. And now that you have written about this possibility, at least I won't worry, even though I hope whatever unpleasantness happened to you can be resolved and will not keep you away from blogland for long.

Have a good flight, and then a smooth drive from the airport to your destination!

  5. Sorry to hear you have something worrying you. Hope it resolves soon. I had something similar a few weeks ago when I had an argument with a neighbour next-door-but-one. In the grand scheme of things it would sound petty to describe it, but it worried me greatly and, as you say, really got under my skin.
