Delivery

American skunk cabbage on the front cover

The western world seems to be crowded with delivery vans and delivery people these days. Soon every other vehicle on the roads will be an Amazon van. Well, that's how it seems to me anyway.

This morning, I was sitting at this very computer when a yellow DHL van pulled up outside. A man in a DHL uniform jumped out with a package for me. He photographed  it on our doorstep to prove that it had been delivered. This procedure is becoming quite common and of course the deliverers never seek permission to take those snaps.

A package for me? I wondered what on earth it might be. Inside the yellow DHL plastic bag was a cardboard box. Spotting it - that's when the penny dropped. My calendars had arrived!

My Geograph site had for the first time given contributors the opportunity to have  personalised  calendars made - using their own chosen  images. Given the fact that I have contributed almost sixteen thousand photographs to the Geograph project I had plenty to choose from before settling on my final thirteen - twelve months and the cover image.

I am delighted with the quality of the finished product.  It's so professional. Perhaps I should have ordered more than the six I paid for. Now it's too late. The curtain has come down on the initiative which was hatched in order to boost Geograph funds.

Of course, I was obliged to include a cow...

    1. Twelve years! Murderers often serve less time.

  2. That is an excellent project. I love calendars with personalized photos. The cow looks very judgmental though.

    1. Cows are wiser than we might think. That's why they like to chase me!

  8. You could probably produce and market those - the Yorkshire Pudding 2022 calendar (at cost price of course beause of your generous nature). Would be good if they gave a choice of calendar formats and layouts - we prefer columns so you can see who is doing what when.

    1. Production is overseen by an unpaid Geograph member. I wouldn't wish to ask more of him but we also prefer column calendars.

  9. Well done. It'll be a worthy keepsake even after 2022 is over. I'm told one of my photos is in our local park information centre's calendar. I'll find out next week and get some copies for presents!

  11. Although I hate the thought of all the carbon being spewn, getting easy two day deliveries to my door has been a paradigm shift in my life. It has allowed me to do things I wouldn't have done back when I had to travel for hours in many directions to get the parts I needed to tackle a project.

    1. With proper delivery planning the arrival of a delivery van could be reducing carbon footprints. I mean, the van driver may well be delivering to other homes in the region - saving many unnecessary journeys.

    1. There are online photo companies that also produce personalised calendars. You could make one yourself Briony. Maybe cats would feature in it!

  15. Excellent YP - and those eyelashes on the cow make me green with envy! Was she, perchance called June?
For 2023, you will have to produce one including pictures of the adorable Phoebe.

  16. You know that I have calendars made with my (and sometimes your) photos every year for my friends and family as Chrismas gifts; 2022 will probably have a woodland or trees theme. I need to start soon, as it takes time to sift through my archive of pictures and choose the ones I feel are best suited, then filling in the online order form and have the calendars printed and delivered.
Always a great moment when they arrive and I open one to check the quality.
