Each time the pressure has been on to talk to the hostess - Steph McGovern while simultaneously demonstrating the preparation of a vegan dish. In my opinion they're not given quite enough time. Another minute would be a huge help, making the process less frenetic.
Today they were making pulled pork sandwiches with apple sauce and carrot crackling. Of course it's not really pork but roasted and shredded jackfruit which when suitably seasoned can take on the flavour and texture of pork. It seemed to go down a treat with Steph and her other studio guests.
By the way, the show is filmed in Leeds so Ian and Henry had to travel up from London early this morning. I have lost count of the number of times they have been on television now. With each TV experience they seem more relaxed and confident in front of the camera.
Ian knew nothing of this particular job when we saw him last weekend. This coming weekend he is off to Dubai on an all expenses paid trip - partly to promote vegan cuisine and also to play a small part in encouraging holidays to Dubai. Incidentally, I have been there twelve times but never left the airport!
Wish I'd known beforehand - I would have watched.
ReplyDeleteI'm mystified to know why ingredients used in vegan food need to have added seasonings to make it taste like meat. I appreciate that not everything is seasoned to resemble something carnivores will eat, but if people have eschewed a traditional way of eating in favour of veganism, it just seems strange to disguise natural ingredients. Carrot crackling sounds interesting, but I hope it's not re-flavoured to taste like pork.
With Ian and Henry they just want their dishes to taste good and many vegans remember the taste of roasted meat with affection. Veganism is not a religion.
DeleteCG, for those of us who have eaten meat all our lives but want to be closer to vegan, meat substitutes can be a very nice way to eat what is familiar. I am not vegan and probably never will be but one of the things I find difficult is transitioning my meal planning and while I build repertoire it is nice to be able to fall back on a veganised version of something I know.
DeleteAs with all new fashions, the way some people glorify it, you'd think it was.
DeleteBasking in his reflected glory, are you? That’s okay, we are all proud when it comes to our children’s accomplishments. But you are clearly way ahead in the trips to Dubai competition!
ReplyDeleteYou're right! I am sunburnt now with all this basking.
DeleteIan looks first rate ventriloquist. He reminds me of Terry Hall. What is the sandwich saying?
ReplyDeleteThe sandwich is saying, "That's the way to do it!"
DeleteYou should puff your chest out and be proud YP, the boy has done good.
ReplyDeleteBriony
x
Puff?
DeleteDid you get his autograph when you saw him at the weekend?
ReplyDeleteThey look as if they are enjoying themselves there.
He wouldn't give me it as I was screaming too much.
DeleteI have never been anywhere in the Middle East but it is definitely a place I would like to visit at some point in my life.
ReplyDeleteQuite a lot of Americans have visited The Middle East - but not as tourists!
DeleteI agree with Briony.
ReplyDeleteI feel perfectly fine about singing his praises once in a while.
DeleteI've never been anywhere near Dubai. What a great opportunity to combine a holiday with work! Their business is really taking off.
ReplyDeleteWho knows how long it will last or how it might grow or decline? I keep my fingers crossed tightly.
DeleteYour son is becoming quite an achiever.
ReplyDeleteWe did leave Dubai airport for a couple of days a few years ago. I see no reason why I would do so a second time.
It just never appealed to me. A glass and concrete fake city built on oil wealth.
DeleteOh bearded young men ….sigh
ReplyDeleteYes they do sigh when being chased down the street by predators.
DeleteOtherwise known as fans? LOL
DeleteAnd your Ian has lots of confidence to get out and perform in front of the camera. Well done!
ReplyDeleteWe use a few BOSH recipes here, I find them very approachable. Congrats again to Ian and Henry
ReplyDeleteMy feelings about Dubai mirror what you replied to Andrew, Neil. It holds just no appeal to me at all.
ReplyDeleteJackfruit is something I have so far tried only once, but will probably do so again. I am neither vegetarian nor vegan; in fact, I really like meat and bacon etc., but I can only enjoy it when I dissociate myself completely from the way it is produced. Animal welfare is a very good reason for going vegan, as is of course the influence of meat production on our environment. Somehow, I am not ready yet to take the last step; I convince myself I am alright by not eating meat more than twice a week (usually on weekends, and not very weekend, either). And cheese? I just LOVE cheese and would find it difficult to leave out dairy products completely.
I flew through Abu Dhabi once but somehow I've never been to Dubai. It doesn't appeal to me as a vacation destination. I think it's mainly for people who like to shop and lie in the sun.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, congrats to Ian for yet another TV experience!
