To be honest, I was stuck for something to blog about today so instead I have chosen to post some more pictures that I took in Lincoln on Monday. Here's The Usher Gallery - the only purpose-built art gallery in Lincolnshire:-
I snapped this picture of rooftops from the south west tower during our rooftop tour:-
Also, while up on the roof I saw this - the twin towers and the lead roof that was, I believe, renewed in the 1980's:-
On The Strait in Lincoln, looking towards the central tower of the cathedral:-Three doors on Bailgate - number 60, number 60½ and number 61:-
New carving on the south west tower - replacing crumbling stonework. The eagle represent St John and the winged man represents St Matthew:-
Arresting modern statue of The Blessed Virgin Mary, installed in 2014:-
And finally, high up above the altar this blurry image of the famous Lincoln Imp which has become the city's principal symbol. The nickname of the local football team - Lincoln City - is The Imps:-
Well, I hope this visual post was okay and interesting enough for you.
Wonderful photos! The new Mary with Christ on a large biscuit is amusing.
ReplyDeleteAnd she has mounted Jesus on an African tribal shield.
DeleteThat is the most unpleasant rendering if Mary I believe I've ever seen.
DeleteIt is a nice old lamp on a bracket. Pity there isn't a light within.
ReplyDeleteIs it common to use 1/2 rather than using a letter?
There is a light bulb within but it only comes on at night. Using 1/2 is uncommon. That's partly why I took that photo Andrew.
DeleteThe architecture is very different than here . It makes your photos interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou live in a very modern settlement Red.
DeleteLove the doors!
ReplyDeleteI was intrigued by number 60 1/2.
DeleteThe three doors picture reminds me of my time in Conwy.
ReplyDeleteThe rooftop picture really shows the age of the city. You look across an American city and you will see chimneys here and there. There you see them on every single house. I can't imagine what the air quality was like back when all those would be in use on a chilly winter morning.
It is odd to see new houses in our country - they don't have chimneys!
DeleteInteresting photos YP, and once again you were lucky with a lovely sunny day.
ReplyDeleteWhat news of the gorgeous Phoebe and her trip to Canada - you haven't mentioned the family since they returned last week.
Some visitors don't like that personal stuff Carol but just for you I will make another Phoebe post this week.
DeleteHow ridiculous that people should complain! She's your grand-daughter and you are justly proud of her. Family are part of your life, and worthy of a mention!
DeleteThe Lincoln Imp looks quite startled. As if he is saying "Well, stone me!"
ReplyDeleteI cannot understand why that small carving became the symbol of Lincoln. He is so high up you can hardly see him from the floor.
DeleteHave always liked Lincoln for a day out.
ReplyDeleteThe townsfolk all yell, "Here comes Dunham of Trent"!
DeleteGreat pictures, all of them. My favourites are the three doors and the view with the lantern.
ReplyDeleteI do value your opinions Meike.
DeleteSuper photos.
ReplyDeleteGlad you liked them Dave.
DeleteIt was quite interesting and thank you. My favorite is the doors I think and the rooftops.
ReplyDeleteThanks for responding Nurse Lily.
DeleteI'd never heard of the "Lincoln imp." Interesting!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why lead is used for roofs. It seems like it would be so unnecessarily heavy.
The weight on Lincoln Cathedral's roof is almost unthinkable Steve.
DeleteI enjoyed the views very much - thank you! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are very welcome DT.
DeleteI love visual posts and I'm hard-pressed to pick a favorite amongst them. Perhaps the three doors.
ReplyDeleteGl;ad you liked that simple image Kelly.
DeleteIt seems like there are a lot of critics in blogland very suddenly. WTH? Who would object to a picture of a darling baby? Or the picture of a four year old as her profile picture? Or a quiz? Or how John Gray manages his money? My gosh. People need to take a chill pill.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed looking at your pictures.
There are people in Blogland who have become self-appointed judges. They seem to think that it is their role to carp and criticise. To me they are just trolls and I am sick of them.
