That's our Ian on the right and his BOSH! partner Henry on the left. I rather like that picture. It appeared in the online version of "The Independent" just this week. It was in relation to the launch of their seventh book: "BOSH! On A Budget".
Last weekend there was a three page spread about their new book in the "Food and Drink" section of "The Daily Telegraph". They also appeared in a BBC 1 morning magazine show called "Morning Live" and in a few days time they will be back on a Channel 4 daytime show called "Steph's Packed Lunch".
Apart from all of this, one of the things that makes me especially proud about their vegan journey so far is that they have sold over a million vegan cookbooks worldwide. It is quite phenomenal. Just before Christmas a former teaching colleague told me that a good friend of his had seen "BOSH!" books for sale in a Moscow bookshop - translated into Russian. I wonder if Vladimir Putin has tried out a few of their vegan recipes? Possibly he only eats raw meat - like a lion.
I sometimes liken the BOSH! story success to surfing a wave. As long as they keep upright and avoid falling off they will make it to the beach. The vegan scene has changed a lot since they set out. More and more people are happy to embrace vegan cuisine and there are more vegan products in supermarkets. It would be so easy to get left behind but so far they are keeping up with the incoming tide.
Hello, Hello, My Friend in Yorkshire.
ReplyDeleteKGB Computer is programmed to flag down Name, Address, Marital Status, Sexual Orientation, Criminal Background of Any Persons who mentions me online, V Putin.
To answer your question.
Yes, I am wery liking the idea of Going Vegan.
But not 7 days a week, Variety is Spice of Life as Actress said to Bishop.
You still have Bishops, but no one goes to Church in godless England, how amusing.
No, Putin does not liken Raw Meat.
You think I am Komodo Dragon, eating my Prey alive? Wery horrible sight.
Putin like Shepherd's Pie, Toad-in-Hole, Bubble + Squeak, Juicy Steak, Fish Fingers.
Maybe Putin retire in Sheffield, with penthouse flat in Velocity Tower, next to Inner Ring Road for Quick Getaway?
Or how about Nice Semi in Brook Hill? Gleadless Valley?
I hear they turned your Slag Heap into Ski Slope.
Sheffield, the New Davos? don't make me laugh Cowboy.
With your Waiting List for housing, Sheffield makes Capitalism work for Capitalists.
Boris wants Big Job at Disney Studios after he retires, but Tony Blair is also wanting Big Job, and you know Tony, she is a Mean Lady when crossed dressed.
I am giving away Secrets, why not? Wait till you read it in Private Eye.
Best luck with Bosh but I am sticking with Bird's Eye.
Vladimir
Your comment is longer than the original blogpost Vladimir. This blog isn't Ukraine, nor is it Kazakhstan. Funny all the same.
DeleteThese two guys are very creative. I can't believe they can churn out seven books.
ReplyDeleteOne of the books is called, "How To Live Vegan" - it's not a recipe book.
DeleteYou have good reason to feel pride. A friend who really liked meat has recently become vegetarian.
ReplyDeleteBtw, this morning I watch a 15 minute YT clip of someone taking the train from Sheffield to Manchester along the Hope Valley. You railway station is very impressive and what a pretty journey along the valley.
It is a lovely route but Sheffield and Manchester are big cities - just 35 miles apart and that is our rail link!
DeleteI would buy from them since I like vegan food and they look healthy and energetic. Handsome and trustworthy too. They have been amazingly successful but have earned all of it.
ReplyDeleteYes. A lot of hard w3ork, enthusiasm and energy!
DeleteI like Good News stories. Well done those lads.
ReplyDeleteAll seven books would look nice on a new shelf in your church house.
DeleteAre they aesthetically colour coordinated?
DeleteYes they are.
DeleteIt has been a success story from the beginning, long may it continue. Two talented lads. Haven't quite given up cheese yet, but promised myself to taste the vegan'yeast' cheese this year.
ReplyDeleteAlways good to read of their continued success.
ReplyDeleteHenry does look quite Vegan. You can tell from his pointed ears, although one pointy bit might be part of a plant.
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought? Of all the things you probably wondered about when Ian was just a little lad about where his life would lead him, I seriously doubt that the idea of "famous vegan cookbook writer" would have appeared in your mind. And yet...here you are.
ReplyDeleteLife is an amazing journey, full of surprises.
It's great to see how they've prospered! Somehow I doubt Putin is one of their admirers, but you never know -- he IS supposedly very health-conscious.
ReplyDeleteThe comment from Russia made me giggle so that O.K. wanted to know what I was reading.
ReplyDeleteHere, January has been dubbed Veganuary, with supermarkets like Aldi encouraging people to buy and try vegan products. And while I must admit that I had quite a few meaty meals in the first week of this still very new year, I am trying out a few such products, too.
Anyway, congratulations to the Bosh! boys!
I follow another blog where one of their cookbooks and a couple of their products were reviewed. At the time I didn't read your blog to know you're a celebrity by association. I have a couple of their books on my wishlist at Amazon and really need to go ahead and purchase one.
ReplyDeleteI admire what they're doing and appreciate that they're showing the world that vegan cuisine is affordable, easy to cook, healthier, and most importantly, delicious! Cracking the shell on anti-vegans might be more difficult than on anti-vaxxers.
Congratulations to them both - what an amazing success they've had in such a short time!
ReplyDeleteYes, brother. I have just read this week that they have topped one million books sold. I think they are very smart. After the first couple of books they did one that was a lot easier to cook from with less exotic ingredients and the latest one is how to cook on a budget, essentially. Very smart! We are half vegan ourselves and the Princess is 100% which is why I have enjoyed a couple of their books and have given them as gifts. Happy New Year, brother!
ReplyDeleteSo pleased to have it confirmed that you are okay after the terrible fires that raged through the northern suburbs of Denver. Somehow I had it fixed in my mind that you and Big Bear live on the south side of the city. Am I right?
DeleteThanks for calling by again Donna and all the best to you and your family in 2022.
It's funny that people think vegan food is expensive: veggies, lentils and rice are what I always cook when I'm on a tight budget!
ReplyDeleteIt is a convenient myth isn't it? That's partly why the lads chose the budget theme for this book.
DeleteIt seems they are doing very well and I hope that continues. I can't do Vegan, I can't even do vegetarian. I'm one of the few people I know who feel 100% better and with more energy, after eating red meat. I limit the amount because of my budget.
ReplyDeleteWe are all vegan or vegetarian some of the time. Reducing meat consumption is good for our planet.
