Yesterday morning we drove to "Sunny Hunny" - Hunstanton on the north Norfolk coast. Later, after lunch, we were in Holme-next-the-Sea and later still we were in Brancaster Staithe. This old musical hall chorus came to mind. It was, apparently, written in 1907 and first recorded in 1909:-
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
Oh I do like to be beside the sea
Oh I do like to walk along the prom prom prom
Where the brass band plays tiddly-om-pom-pom
As someone who dwells inland, I certainly do like to be beside the seaside. How about you?
You like the sea? Try being a prairie boy 1500 km from the sea!
ReplyDeleteIs a prairie boy the same as a prairie dog?
DeleteWe're about a half hour from the sea, and yes I like to go there. When it's not too cold. Or too hot. Actually, the temperature is not very often just right. But I would miss it if we ever moved far from it. I know it's there, if I should want to go, if that makes sense.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I do like the photos. It looks like it was a bit chilly next to the water, but a lovely day.
Half an hour is good. It means you can get to the sea pretty quickly... to build your sandcastles.
DeleteIf I lived the perfect world (my little corner of the perfect little world I dream about that would be just perfect for me) - I would live by the sea. Somewhere I didn't see people - not surrounded by crowds, houses, high-rise buildings, bitumen roads, non-stop traffic flowing to and fro.
ReplyDeleteI only want to see the sea..not people or neighbours close by. I don't want to see them. Open spaces, peace and quiet with only the sounds of the sea and the bird life would do me just fine. :)
At Holme-next-the-Sea we found ourselves on an empty beach. The tide had just gone out and there was not a footprint to be seen anywhere apart from those we had made ourselves.
DeleteWe live at the end of a dead-end road. Our nearest neighbor is about 1/2 mile away down the hill. Our days are filled with the sounds of the wind in the trees, elk bugling in our valley and coyotes singing in the night. Peace. Our favorite 'get-away' is the beach! We love the beach; the sights & sounds, the shops & food. Not so much all the noise and people...and we are always homesick to be back at the farm!
ReplyDeleteYou may not be rich in financial terms Hilly but in terms of your immediate environment you are very wealthy and fortunate too.
DeleteI would love to live nearer to the coast, we are about four hours drive from the sea. I like your photograph of the seagull coming in to land.
ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth, she was just taking off from that groyne.
DeleteNot too far away - it's about 5 minutes in the car, or I can walk down with the dog, and it takes about 20 minutes. Coming back up is another matter !
ReplyDeleteHaving lived a long way from the coast, in the Midlands of England, for most of my life, I appreciate being so near to the ocean.
Lovely photos again YP. Hope you're taking some which you'll use as the basis for future art work?
In recent times, I have taken so many pictures I could turn into artwork that if I were to fulfil all of these ideas I would need to live to the age of 250 CG!
DeleteI always like the beach, though I am not a lie-in-the-sun kind of person. (That happens less in England than in Florida, anyway!)
ReplyDeleteI bet your body is ripped like a lifeguard in "Baywatch".
DeleteWe are going to be staying in that light house for a week next year, I'm really looking forward to it!
ReplyDeleteWow! You lucky thing MAC! The striped cliffs run just below it. The White Horse in Holme-next-the-Sea looked like a good place for ab evening meal. Last night we had excellent fish and chips in Fishers of Hunstanton.
DeleteThank you for that!
DeleteI like the seaside only if there are no "Tsunami Zone" signs by the road.
ReplyDeleteI agree - nobody wants a tsunami when walking on the beach. It could easily spoil one's afternoon.
DeleteI like to walk along deserted beaches in the wintertime, when the sun is shining and I am rugged up against the cold.
ReplyDeleteAlphie
Is that when you sing ABBA hits at the top of your voice Alphie?
DeleteWe live about an hour's drive from the ocean. I don't go nearly often enough.
ReplyDeleteI bet your dogs like to romp upon the beach...or are there nasty insects there?
DeleteThere are times when I need to see the sea, just to make sure that it is still there and then deeply inhale the ozone.
ReplyDeleteThe sea can be a kind of therapy - soothing, putting things into perspective.
DeleteThis is a good idea thank for sharing on the website .
