Yesterday morning we drove to "Sunny Hunny" - Hunstanton on the north Norfolk coast. Later, after lunch, we were in Holme-next-the-Sea and later still we were in Brancaster Staithe. This old musical hall chorus came to mind. It was, apparently, written in 1907 and first recorded in 1909:-
Oh I do like to be beside the seaside
Oh I do like to be beside the sea
Oh I do like to walk along the prom prom prom
Where the brass band plays tiddly-om-pom-pom
You like the sea? Try being a prairie boy 1500 km from the sea!

DeleteWe're about a half hour from the sea, and yes I like to go there. When it's not too cold. Or too hot. Actually, the temperature is not very often just right. But I would miss it if we ever moved far from it. I know it's there, if I should want to go, if that makes sense.

Half an hour is good. It means you can get to the sea pretty quickly... to build your sandcastles.
DeleteIf I lived the perfect world (my little corner of the perfect little world I dream about that would be just perfect for me) - I would live by the sea. Somewhere I didn't see people - not surrounded by crowds, houses, high-rise buildings, bitumen roads, non-stop traffic flowing to and fro.
ReplyDeleteI only want to see the sea..not people or neighbours close by. I don't want to see them. Open spaces, peace and quiet with only the sounds of the sea and the bird life would do me just fine. :)
At Holme-next-the-Sea we found ourselves on an empty beach. The tide had just gone out and there was not a footprint to be seen anywhere apart from those we had made ourselves.
DeleteWe live at the end of a dead-end road. Our nearest neighbor is about 1/2 mile away down the hill. Our days are filled with the sounds of the wind in the trees, elk bugling in our valley and coyotes singing in the night. Peace. Our favorite 'get-away' is the beach! We love the beach; the sights & sounds, the shops & food. Not so much all the noise and people...and we are always homesick to be back at the farm!

DeleteI would love to live nearer to the coast, we are about four hours drive from the sea. I like your photograph of the seagull coming in to land.

DeleteNot too far away - it's about 5 minutes in the car, or I can walk down with the dog, and it takes about 20 minutes. Coming back up is another matter !
ReplyDeleteHaving lived a long way from the coast, in the Midlands of England, for most of my life, I appreciate being so near to the ocean.

In recent times, I have taken so many pictures I could turn into artwork that if I were to fulfil all of these ideas I would need to live to the age of 250 CG!

ReplyDeleteWow! You lucky thing MAC! The striped cliffs run just below it. The White Horse in Holme-next-the-Sea looked like a good place for ab evening meal. Last night we had excellent fish and chips in Fishers of Hunstanton.

DeleteThere are times when I need to see the sea, just to make sure that it is still there and then deeply inhale the ozone.
