BOSH!

That's my boy Ian on the right. With Henry, who is on the left, they formed a vegan food company nine years ago. It is called BOSH! They have had a big impact as vegan influencers and have sold over a million cookbooks.

Recently they have been working with Britain's biggest supermarket chain to produce a new range of vegan ready meals. The supermarket chain is called TESCO and earlier this week the BOSH! ready meals started to appear in hundreds of TESCO supermarkets throughout Great Britain. Smaller TESCO stores are not yet stocking these new BOSH! products but all of the bigger stores are. It is quite a coup.

I keep my fingers crossed that this initiative will really work out for Ian, Henry and their team. The truth is that TESCO are very skilled when it comes to launching new products. They tend not to back losers.

This evening our family evening meal consisted entirely of the new BOSH! products:

  • N’duja Sourdough Pizza
  • Margarita Sourdough Pizza
  • Creamy No-Duja Pasta
  • Goan Chickpea Curry
  • Creamy Mac & Greens
  • Teriyaki Mushroom Noodles
  • Hearty Vegetable Lasagne
  • Ultimate Bean Chilli
They were all very tasty and though we think a couple of the dishes could be tweaked a bit more we were pretty delighted with the range. I especially liked the Teriyaki Mushroom Noodles, the Creamy No-Duja Pasta and the Margarita Sourdough Pizza.

I should apologise to North American, German, Swedish, Irish and Australian visitors because currently you won't be able to purchase these new BOSH! products in your local supermarkets but here in Great Britain I hope that some of you guys will look out for BOSH! chilled ready meals in the cold display aisles at TESCO.

Needless to say, I am pretty proud of that son of mine. To make it with TESCO is quite a thing.

  2. The creamy mac and greens came up on my instagram and I thought it looked fabulous. Ian and Henry have certainly achieved a flourishing business in these nine years!

  5. Good on Ian and Henry; we are not vegan in our house, but we have eaten vegan meals because we like to try different things.

  8. It really IS quite a thing - congratulations!!
Next time my sister and I are in Ripon, we'll go to TESCO and check out some of the BOSH! products.
My Mum makes the best vegetarian lasagne I know - but it's not vegan, because she uses dairy products for the sauce and topping.
As I am typing this, I am having my daily vegan breakfast: organic granola with nuts & berries, fresh blueberries, slices of fresh banana, and instead of milk I have long been using oat drinks. Aldi has quite a good one, not as expensive as the Oatly products but nearly as tasty.

  11. Clever lads, inventing new dishes. Veganism is a hard sell but they have managed it.

  12. Hats off to the lads. I hope we soon see Bosh products here in West Cork.

  13. Vegan here. I unfortunately cannot buy these new products, but I have made several of their dishes using their online recipes. Excellent stuff. And I'm so glad Tesco has picked them up; a wider audience is always a good thing! I hope one day veganism won't be a "hard sell" as Thelma says. I can't imagine living any other way.

  14. Well done, and I wish them good luck with their enterprise! (So far, I'm not really in the habit of buying 'ready meals' of any brand myself, whether vegan or other kind.)

    1. Same here, Monica; it is extremely rare that I buy a ready meal. If I don't feel like cooking - or am too hungry and can't wait until a cooked meal is ready - I simply go for bread and cheese, and/or a salad.

  15. "The truth is that TESCO are very skilled". I think 'is very skilled' but perhaps 'are' is arguable. You are the English expert.
We in the colonies just have to satisfy ourselves with cooking from Bosh cookbook recipes. A bit of added bacon wouldn't break the recipes?

  16. Congratulations to Ian. I know you are a very proud dad. I have heard of Tesco before, but I have never seen one, and I have been to the UK three times. I am serving a vegan meal to some friends tomorrow night. I wish I had your son with me to guide me through using tofu as I never seem to have any luck with it!

  18. What a coup for your son. I wish him every success I was recently in our local garden centre and browsing in the book section when there in front of me was a Bosh book, so he's getting everywhere.

  21. Many congratulations to your son and his friend. There must have been some lean times in those nine years and it's so good that their efforts have been rewarded.
I shall tell the vegan members of my family about BOSH! products, as they're always on the lookout for new ideas. BISH, BASH, BOSH!

  22. Whilst I sincerely congratulate Ian and Henry for their undoubted success and entrepreneurial spirit, I worry that certain elements in some areas of the public sector (school meals, catering for events etc) are being forcibly moved onto entirely vegan offerings, in denial of people's freedom of choice, in the same way that halal meat is being foisted onto people without their knowledge or consent.

  23. I'd love to try (almost) any of those meals, but as you said, it's not possible for those of us in the US. I wish they would make their "nooch" varieties available here, maybe on Amazon. Meanwhile, I just enjoy seeing them on Instagram.

  24. You are not supposed to eat them all at once.
