Poor old Meghan Markle (Duchess of Sussex). She came over to Europe in order to attend The Paris Fashion Week. Tragically, her luggage must have been temporarily lost in transit - but being ever resourceful, she cleverly swathed herself in hotel bed linen before attending the first event in her diary. In my humble opinion, the outfit looks kind of cool but unmistakably it's still bed linen. I hope she informed the hotel management beforehand. Apparently, the little black clutch bag contained a sausage roll and a "Mars" bar in case Meghan needed a snack while sitting next to the cat walk.
All international fashion weeks are important as they set the direction for high street fashions in the year ahead. I know that many women who visit this humble Yorkshire blog are very fashion-conscious and keen to keep up with modern trends. I doubt many of you will be engaging with Meghan's wraparound bed sheet idea but the following Maison Alaïa outfit has appeared in Paris this year and I predict that in a few months you will all be wearing it. See how thrilled the model was to be clad in such a trailblazing combo...
Maison Alaïa helpfully explained..."Clothes move like kinetic sculpture, living, animated with pleats and drapes. Hoods conceal and reveal, framing faces like a portrait of a woman, a portrait of beauty.
Body consciousness here means a consciousness of the body, inside its dress, protective and cocooning. It is also a consciousness and reflection of femininity, clothes shaped to mirror the topography of the female form through curves and padding, through layers that act like an armour to shield.
Your body is yours."

Your body is yours."
We should all remember the wisdom of that final remark when purchasing new clothes... "Your body is yours". I must admit that previously I never thought of my body that way.
I thought I had clicked on another blog when I saw that photo. I can think of a southern blogger who seems to post about her fairly regularly.
ReplyDeleteFashion is subjective, but I thought Meghan looked good.
ReplyDeleteThat one that looks like a toilet, however, did not.
I can just picture myself going to work in that protective outfit. The hood will mean I can‘t wear the headset for video calls and will have to cancel all such appointments. Good!
ReplyDeleteThe clever draping of bed sheets is a look more apt for those days when I‘m working from home.
I think Meghan's "bedsheet" looks quite lovely! The second one is definitely in the "fashion as art" category, as opposed to "fashion as clothing."
ReplyDeleteI did buy some new socks this year. They were rather expensive ones from Cosyfeet specially for people whose feet are so swollen they can't get any others on. The great thing about them is that I am no longer conscious of my body, at least that part.
ReplyDeleteI have been known to wrap a bedsheet around me, but it was my own sheet and no one took my picture. I know MM has her fans, but I don't understand her game plan.
ReplyDeleteI don't need to be fashionable. I just need to be comfy.
ReplyDeleteI think cat walks, high end fashion, misunderstood. It's not about practicalities. It's about making a statement. A bit like red carpet. Who needs a red carpet to walk a few meters to receive an Oscar? No one. In fact, come to think of it, no one needs an Oscar. Do your thing. Be happy.
ReplyDeleteI currently sport a bird's nest of hair worthy of a cuckoo to hatch in. So what? As trends go I'll set one. Call it Gucci. Or Lagerfeld. Or Ursula. Not Coco Chanel. She won't have it. Having said that I dread the inevitable: Namely, being told that it's irreparable.
Don't sent chocolate. I'll live.

Shave it off and start over.
DeleteFashion is definitely something I've not ever had an interest in. Never understood the need to get the latest jackets or whatever. I wear what I wear - black t-shirt and my trusty jacket and always a flat cap (I wore them before the knobs started wearing them).
ReplyDeleteI dislike Meghan enough that I don't want to give her credit for anything but I have to say, she's stylish. Sylish but not classy.
ReplyDeleteThe other thing is an abomination
I also don't think much about clothes other than to keep me comfortable.
ReplyDeleteIf that's what passes for fashion then I am glad to be out of style. I also thought Megan Markle's outfit was sheets or white drapes.
ReplyDeleteMs Sparkle has a very troubled face, slightly hidden by surgery or whatever filler people use. She's had such a troubled life. I've just checked and she is 44 years old, and I'm afraid I think she looks it.
ReplyDeleteThat second one looks like a toilet seat with the lid up! I could see myself wearing that to the supermarket.
ReplyDeleteI might try the Meghan look next time I have to expect a visit from plumbers or other workmen in the early morning... (On second thought, perhaps not though - since my choice of sheets would be either the duvet cover or the fitted sheet tightly hugging my mattress.)
ReplyDeleteWhat a load of rubbish these fashion designers spout and turn out, in desperation to convince the gullible public that their "creations" are the next thing we'll be wearing.
ReplyDeleteMarkle's bedsheet has run it's course and she's had the media attention she so desperately craves - which is why she wore it . My only thoughts on the second outfit are that the model is seriously anorexic and why would any woman want to wear a re-configured lavatory seat around her waist or a babies' potty seat on her head!
She’s trying very hard to become Jackie Onassis
