Awful

Music played, and people sang
Just for me, the church bells rang.

Now he's gone, I don't know why
And till this day, sometimes I cry
He didn't even say goodbye
He didn't take the time to lie.

Bang bang, he shot me down
Bang bang, I hit the ground
Bang bang, that awful sound
Bang bang, my baby shot me down...

Cho Seung-hui, aged 23 died at Virginia Tech yesterday morning. He was a South Korean - a guest in the USA - pursuing a degree course in English. What was going on his head? To wantonly cut short so many lives without good reason - it beggars belief. So once again, as an unashamed Americophile, I find myself mourning the wasted lives of mostly young Americans in the land of the brave and the free where lunatics like Cho Seung-hui can all too easily get hold of lethal weapons. Sing it with tears in your eyes for the lost thirty two...
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave,
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

  2. Shocked but, once again, not surprised.

I was listening to American academics on Radio %Live this morning suggesting that if the teachers had guns thay would be able to "take out" these pillocks before they did "too much" damage.

    So that's that sorted then.

  3. Yeah, it's heartbreaking. As lame as this sounds, I'm almost glad I didn't hear about it until much later in the day. That was one of those times when I was glad we had no means of media in the office. I even said an agnostic-type prayer...of sorts. Things like this bring out emotions we all try to forget we own.

  4. I am not about to preach or to detract from the enormity of this event, but.... it does indeed raise serious gun ownership issues.

Yes, the NRA have stated that if every student, and teacher also carried guns, then this wouldn't happen.

How would you dare fail me in my english exam, knowing that it could all end up like reservoir fox?
