Gdansk

All my bags are packed, I'm ready to go... I've been to Poland, Ohio but never to the country that bears that name so before the new school year starts I'm off to Gdansk, Poland via Robin Hood Airport. Back Wednesday. I'll see what I will see and report back here...
Lech Walesa outside the famous shipyards... twenty seven years ago.

That seemed to be such a momentous time - and just like yesterday!

You're off on holiday AGAIN!!! They're paying you too much in that school. ;)

Jennyta - you took the words right out of my mouth!!

They always bleat on about too much work for not enough pay.... and all that homework they have to mark.

I am surprised they can fit it all into their 25 week year!!

Are there any teddy bears dressed up as other things in these parts?
Just checking!

Another bloody holiday!!!! Anyway, hope you spot all those pro-CIA and pro-US fuckers who organised the shipyard strike. And such an enlightened government those freedom-loving people have now, eh? Suppose that's exactly what they wanted all along, unfortunately.

SOME PEOPLE LIKE FLOWER-ARRANGING. SOME PEOPLE LIKE HANG-GLIDING OR HARE COURSING. ME? I LIKE TRAVELLING AND SEEING NEW PLACES. COST OF FLIGHT TO GDANSK -£118 RETURN. HOTEL £30 A NIGHT. FOOD/DRINK/MISCELLANEOUS = £100. Airport Parking = £29 TOTAL = £278

No teddy bears dressed up as other things!

Reidski - If all you could guarantee buying at your local store was vinegar, if you were sacked for promoting trade unionism, if your life was grey and grim you too might climb over the shipyard wall and light the blue touch paper of social change. Quite possibly the CIA may have fanned the flames but they didn't start the conflagration. That was organic and homespun and the new Poland is a far better place than the old Poland and in Gdansk Walesa remains a hero of the people, a vital part of Poland's modern history.

Were you shouting at us then, YP? Me, I've been in school the last 2 days and shall be there again tomorrow. It's these secondary teachers who have all the free time, Arcticfox. ;)

As far as I know, Reidski's life is grey and grim.
