Miscellaneous

Ian on the left and Henry on the right
Our son Ian and his Bosh! friend Henry have been demonstrating vegan cookery live on YouTube for the past month on weekday nights only. It has been a blast. For the past two Fridays their live cooking shows have been followed by something entirely different -  Bosh Live music sessions hosted by Twitch.

They don't play instruments or sing. They use decks and musical technology to drive beats and sounds into the evening. During these live shows they "chat" in the margin with visitors and vegan fans. I took a few screen shots along the way.

For Bosh! Go here and explore.

Yesterday we were meant to check in to two quizzes hosted by "Zoom" but we never received the required invitation to participate in the first quiz that began at 10am. The second quiz began at 12.30pm. Shirley and I had prepared ten questions on The Animal Kingdom. There were six other "Zoom" teams. The whole process took an incredible two and a half hours! I had thought that it would all be done and dusted in an hour but no such luck. Still it was quite good fun. We came second.

In the evening, I ordered our first takeaway food since March 23rd. I drove over to "The New India Garden" along traffic-free streets to pick up the tasty curry fayre including lamb balti, channa sag, chicken bhuna, tandoori roti and vegetable rice. It was a real treat and a nice change for me as I had cooked the previous thirty seven evening meals.

Afterwards we settled down to watch "Mrs Lowry and Son" on Netflix starring two brilliant English  filmstars - Timothy Spall and Vanessa Redgrave. It had been recommended to me by a guy who lives in a polytunnel in Ireland - "Northsider". As I  have always admired the art of L.S.Lowry. I was in a good frame of mind to enjoy this show.  Unfortunately, Shirley fell asleep but I loved  the film - which covered Lowry's middle age before he found a measure of acceptance and acclaim. To find out more about Lowry, go here.

  1. A nice Indian feast sounds just the ticket!
Live Bosh with chat is an interesting idea. A feminist writer I followed started selling tickets for people to watch Netflix "with" her and chat in a similar way. That was when I stopped following her.

I really enjoyed your bluebell post yesterday.

    1. Paying to chat? Maybe she is more capitalist than feminist.

  2. It looks like the Bosh Boys are having fun and keeping things moving! I'm glad to hear you and Shirley enjoyed the day. A Zoom quiz, take out meal and a good movie makes for a nice day. We have not ordered take out food yet but I am about ready to as this cooking every night gets old!

  4. The Bosh! boys are great fun in everything they do, it seems.
Mmmh, Indian food! I've not had any in a long time. Maybe an idea for us this coming week, so that O.K. does not have to cook all the time.

    1. Obviously in Britain with our strong links with the Indian subcontinent we have many authentic curry houses. But what about Ludwigsburg? Do you have Indian takeaways and restaurants there?

    2. We do, there is the Tandoori on a street corner half way between my place and my parents', and one or two more in other parts of town.

  5. Bosh is extending its brand, I see! Dave always falls asleep when we watch movies. I've learned not to take it as a judgment on the quality of the film!

  6. I cannot, absolutely cannot, cope with quizzes. Things I know back to front and inside out escape me instantly when the question is asked. The Family used to rag me somewhat because I always came last in quizzes which were very popular in the household. The questions were randomly generated by the program and I knew a good proportion of the answers but could never press the buzzer and answer the question before the others. My mind only worked like that in the days when I was in committee or cross-examining witnesses and then there was rarely an element of surprise.

    I have a feeling that I haven't watched a film since 2018 but I could be wrong.

    1. Oh my giddy aunt! And there was me thinking that you were the font of all knowledge Graham! The Isle of Lewis's answer to Bamber Gascoigne. Shall I send you a conical hat with the fourth letter of the alphabet written on it in marker pen?

    2. YP, unfortunately the difference between knowledge (which I have a fair amount of) and the ability to access it in an instant when it's needed is, in my case, huge. I often wonder if it's something to do with the fact that I have no ability to keep images in my memory and so much of memory is to do with images.

  7. We had takeout food for the first time since March the other night, as well. I ordered a pizza. I love to cook, but I'm really getting tired of it.

Glad you're enjoying Netflix. There are tons of good shows and movies on there for people new to the service.

    1. I like to cook as you know but Shirley was keen on a takeaway treat so being her subservient husband I had to comply.

    2. Also it was very easy to calculate as our last takeaway was on Shirley's birthday - March 23rd.

And Zoom trivia sounds fun. Hank is selling trivia packages for online games. I think it's great how people are finding work-arounds for their passions.
No take-away in Lloyd unless you count the Subway sandwich place down by the gas station. Which I do not.
    Be well, Mr. P.

  10. This is the first I've heard of Bosh, your son and his friend sound very creative, music and food combined for a program. I read the whole story on the link you provided about the artist, he was so unrecognized for so long. I have a B.A. in Art History and the subject is fascinating to me. I have happily discovered the great TV series, The Art Detective, with Bendor Grosvenor as host.

    1. Thanks for calling by Terra. L.S.Lowry means a lot to many people from the north of England. He seems to speak of our heritage and of ordinary life. His style was very independent - almost unique.

  11. The movie looks good. I've never heard of L.S. Lowry so I read up on him. I like his paintings but his life sounds so sad. I guess that could be said of more than a few of us. Thanks for the recommendation.

  13. By coincidence, I felt the same as you yesterday and picked up take-away F and C. There was a special offer at our up-market fish market, Kailis: F and C for two with a bottle of chardonnay for $39.99. It came in two smart cardboard boxes. No newspaper here!

    1. At first I thought F&C was perhaps something rude Margaret. Then I realised you were talking about good old fish and chips! Sadly, fish and chips are not wrapped in newspapers any more over here - something about food hygiene I believe.
