Chain

Until we opened the box, we didn't know. There were two mugs. One for Shirley and one for me. She removed the white tissue from hers first and then I noticed she was blubbering. Why? Then I got the tissue off mine and straightaway I knew why. We are going to be grandparents if Nature takes her proper course.

Everybody knows now so why not share the good news with blog friends? Baby Pudding should arrive after Christmas - perhaps on the day of the next Haxey Hood on The Isle of Axholme - January 6th. It's early days yet and common sense says that a proportion of pregnancies end in tears but in spite of this we cannot help being ridiculously excited. The chain of life continues - connecting us all to the past and future.

Here are the parents-to-be yesterday afternoon - under Stanage Edge with the big smiley millstone. Maybe one day I will take my little grandson or granddaughter there. I hope so.

    1. Thank you Mary. "Successful pregnancy" strikes a salutary note of caution which of course chimes with me.

    1. Later the child will say, "It's not fair having my birthday so close to Christmas!"

    2. That's so true - my birthday is at the beginning of January, and I mostly had one gift for both. Not that one should think in such mercenary terms of course.....

    3. Of course. It would be so selfish to think like that!

  12. Surprise! I remember you saying you felt you'd probably not have this experience, so I can imagine how surprised you were :)

What hopeful and lovely news at a time of uncertainty and unheaval. I hope the pregnancy goes well. I understand what you said about the sense of connectedness. Perhaps it is an instinctive thing. We can choose friends based on our shared interests and values, while our relatives may end up being quite different from us, yet there is something so unique about being part of a family that stretches both backward and forward. I'm not articulating it well but I was thinking about it myself yesterday, having entertained our little grandsons for a few hours.

Congratulations to all the Pudding family :)

  13. Well, that's fantastic news for Fathers' Day! We were told that we were going toe grandparents in just the same way, unwrapping parcels at Christmas to find mugs with Grandma and Grandpa on them. The following months seemed to last forever! Wishing that all goes well for the future of the Pudding clan.

    3. We most likely are, Librarian [thinking along the same lines].

I can't tell you how much you remind me of a dear friend of mine (we were twelve or so when we first met, my family just having moved). She wasn't a librarian then or now. However, she sure introduced me to the joys of the town's well stocked library and made me take home books so heavy I sometimes was close to cracking under the weight.
