Backtracking

Today I was going to post Sandy Denny's "Who Knows Where The Time Goes?" but when I checked  back I found I had already done that - see here.

So then I thought I would post about our old cat Boris - the one that never came home - but upon looking back I found that I had already done that too - see here.

What could be my blogpost for today? I thought I might write a poem about one of Antony Gormley's iron men, standing on the beach at Crosby near Liverpool but again backtracking proved that I had already done that  - see here.

Perhaps I could post about my feelings upon retirement from teaching, But once again, I discovered that I had already done that - see here.

In fact, as I came up with several more "new" blogpost ideas I found that they had also already been addressed. There was nothing "new" about them at all. They were already done. Consequently, instead of publishing a fresh post today, I decided to just guide visitors back to four earlier posts. See above.

I have travelled a long way with my alter ego - Yorkshire Pudding - covering so many topics, sharing so many images, writing so many things. 3045 blogposts and counting.. I wonder if the reservoir has finally dried up. We will see what tomorrow brings for as Scarlett O'Hara correctly said, "Tomorrow is another day".

  1. I shall enjoy backtracking through all you previous posts Mr P. I suppose that, as a newly minted blogger, I have a little while to go yet before my well runs dry.

    2. "all you previous posts" makes you sound like a resident of the Caribbean islands.

  2. Since you quoted Scarlett O'Hara, I could quote Rhett Butler...but I won't. I'm always a bit surly before my morning coffee, but this morning I am exhibiting remarkable restraint.

You are certainly to be congratulated on having done 3000+ posts. I'm nearing the 1800 mark myself and slowing down as well.

    1. 1800 posts is also a lot of wisdom to dispense.

  3. What struck me was the difference between your readership now and in the earlier posts. Your poem on the Anthony Gormley statues was one I did remember which is not surprising given that I have stood on those sands and looked out to sea but with seeing eyes. I've also seen the Gormley figures in San Giminiano.

    1. Well I never realised that there were Gormley figures in San Gimignano. It is funny how one's blog readership changes with time.

  4. I can find nothing wrong with backtracking...sometimes the back track is worth re-tracking. Everything old is new again...and there is almost always something newly discovered that was overlooked previously! :)

Also, somethings are worth re-discovering and sharing.

    1. When I can't think of anything to blog about, I might well repeat this exercise. Revisiting is not a bad thing.

  5. You made me curious and I just went and checked- I have posted 7461 posts in the past almost twelve years. Have I repeated myself?
    YES!
    Does that bother me?
    Not one bit.
Some things bear repeating. And some things just will be whether they're worth it or not.

    1. Wow! 7461 posts! That's like ALL of Wikipedia Mary!

  6. Looked at your retirement post a was surprised to see it was 2009. Your reflections on 10 years of retirement would be interesting. It's a standard thing to say "I don't know how I had ever time to go to work" - but one chap said to me that in fact he was now so busy he was thinking of advertising for an assistant.

    1. I hear that a lot Tasker but I was MUCH busier when I was working. There was hardly any time for sleeping. Life is much more relaxed now and much better for my well-being.

  7. I often argue with myself as to whether or not I should have a blog. My greatest fear is that I would have nothing of interest to write about. You and many others are to be commended for writing as often as you do and always maintaining the interests of your readers. I always enjoy your blog and I see nothing wrong with a repeat of a previous one or even giving yourself a break from posting occasionally. Over 3000 posts - my goodness that IS a lot!

    1. I think you should give blogging a go Bonnie. Why not? If it doesn't work out and you don't enjoy it then you can simply quit. It won't cost you a penny and I for one will be very happy to read and comment upon your first posts.

    2. I think you should try it too, Bonnie. And like YP, I will be pleased to read and comment.

  8. Somehow I don't think your well will run dry ... ever :) And as has been said, readership changes so it's good to link to older entries for those of us who haven't read them before.

    1. It is indeed a very deep well Jenny. I'm coming up for fourteen years of blogging and I never thought I would have made so many blogposts.

  9. Re-reading one's own old posts can be an interesting exercise indeed, as over time our perspective on certain events or aspects of life can change. What is repeated most often on my blog are posts about places I keep visiting over and over again, or traditional events I attend every year. They are never exactly the same, and noting subtle and obvious changes is also interesting.

    1. You are so right Meike. There is absolutely nothing wrong with revisiting places and topics.

  10. Goodness, those figures are eye-watering! As a sporadic blogger, after a year I'm averaging less than one per week, but it's certainly not from a shortage of things to say, haha. I think the approach to revisiting old ground would be to treat it as you would travel, where a single visit in a lifetime doesn't always necessarily suffice. Passage of time, change of seasons, etc, always make the revisit fresh and interesting.

    1. I am sorry to hear that you are sporadic Pip. A neighbour's son is also sporadic and I know how he struggles with school work. It's heartbreaking.

    1. I think I have said enough about "Bosh!" for the time being. I don't want this to be seen as ad-space for "Bosh!"
