Lucidity

Beau and Peep were bathed in the light of a gorgeous summer's morning on Saturday. It was 5am and with camera in hand,  I padded out upon our lawn in my bare feet. They have been out there for a long time now. The mother - Beau arrived from Nottingham in October 2011 and the lamb, Peep arrived at Christmastime in the same year.

They have been no trouble and have often given momentary delight to visitors and tradespeople alike. "Oh! I thought they were real!" is a remark we have often heard which is something of an insult to Beau and Peep because they are real! I overheard them...

PEEP Mummy? What's a pandemic?
BEAU Shut up and keep eating the grass!

Soon after snapping these pictures, the sun arched higher and the shadows of houses and trees swept across the lawn till Beau and Peep were no longer bathed in that lucid morning light. The moment was gone.

    1. That is indeed moss. As the saying goes: "A standing sheep gathers some moss".

  4. I've never seen sheep garden statuary here in the states. Sad. Yours are lovely.

  5. If they ever need re-homing you can send them my way. I'm not a fan of garden ornaments but I would make an exception for Beau and Peep, they are lovely.

  6. Once they're totally covered in moss, they'll look like gigantic Chia Pets!

    1. The light really caught my attention. I don't normally go wandering barefoot at that time of day JayCee.

  9. Maybe you SHOULD get some living sheep! That ought to thrill your neighbors. Nice light on Beau and Peep.

  11. An early summer morning has something almost magical to it, doesn't it.
There are a few gardens around O.K.'s village with similar sheep statues for ornaments, and when I saw them the first time, for a moment I thought they were live sheep; not unusual in a rural place like that.

    1. You should get your own sheep Meike. It would look cool in your bijou apartment.

  12. They do look real - even with the moss growing on them. Do you have to move them each time you mow the lawn, or do they keep their little patch nicely shorn?

    1. They have to be moved around occasionally but when the moon is full they move themselves!

  15. There’s a home on my walking circuit that has a number of sheep such as yours. There’s a little lean-to to one side of the driveway and the folks who live there keep us smiling by moving them around the front of their home lawn.
