Topsy-turvy

In this blog, I have been consciously trying to avoid political commentary in recent months but I just cannot overlook what the current American President said yesterday at Mar-a-Lago. Referring to Volodoymir Zelensky and to preliminary endgame talks in Saudi Arabia, The American President  said:-

“Today I heard, ‘Oh, we weren’t invited.’ Well, you’ve been there for three years. You should have ended it three years ago – you should have never started it. You could have made a deal.”

The elderly speaker seems to be amazingly and dangerously ill-informed. Of course President Zelensky did not "start it" back in February 2022. His country, Ukraine, was invaded by Russian military forces and ever since it has been under siege. Millions of Ukrainians have fled for their lives. The war was started by Putin and of that there is absolutely no doubt.

What "deal" could Mr Zelensky have possibly made apart from surrendering Ukrainian territory to Russia? What kind of a "deal" is that?

The American President and his minions appear to be on a mission to flush truth away and replace it with falsehood. They cosy up to Putin without admonishing him or suggesting how he might be made to pay for his tyranny. Because of Putin, some 700,000 Russian troops have been killed and some 300,000 Ukrainians have been killed or wounded.

Now The American President is trying to sully Volodoymir Zelensky's legitimacy by pointing out that there hasn't recently been a presidential election in Ukraine. But how could a meaningful election be held in a war zone from which millions have fled and many towns and cities lie in ruins? Besides, the Ukraine president has a higher approval rating than the current American President himself  has in the USA.

It's all so topsy-turvy. It is hard to believe what is going on. And you have got Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, saying that it would be "unacceptable" to Russia if European troops formed a peace-keeping force to police Ukraine after the war. Surely, the aggressor's opinion should have no currency and any American president worth his salt should be saying that loud and clear. But of course the current incumbent isn't a real president is he - he remains a greedy real estate developer devoid of wisdom or compassion.

  1. He's an absolute disgrace of a president AND a human being. I don't have words for such a vile person.

I wish we had a leader like President Zelenski, a true patriot who loves his country and will fight for it.

    1. As leadership skills go, there is a stark contrast between your old man and President Zelensky.

  2. The traitorous, racist, rapist, con man, grifter, adulterous Felon in Chief is NOT ill-informed. He's Putin's Puppet and he's lying, blatantly, and thinking anyone will forget how that war started with Putin's tiny penis wanting to expand.

    1. I suspect that many Ukrainians have been fighting in the belief good will ultimately triumph over evil - never imagining that the current US President would adopt a very different view.

  4. The felon is not a president at all. He's a wannabe king of the world and ruins everything he touches. He thinks he's special but in truth I think he will die a lonely death in the not too distant future. I am heartsick everyday to see what he has done to our country and the damage to the world.

    1. Delicate balances developed over decades have been thrown into chaos both internally and externally.

  5. I'm sickened by this whole one-sided "peace negotiation." Trump is clearly spreading Russian lies with great glee. It's as sickening as Trump's offer to commit the war crime of "ethnic cleansing" in Gaza by removing Palestinians from their land. The USA can no longer be viewed or trusted as an ally by anyone in the West.

    1. It is as if The Fake President has accrued all his knowledge about the Ukraine conflict from Putin and his underlings.

  7. That was quite concise. Bob's comment and adjectives are quite appropriate.

  8. I don't know what to say to this. I try to never use the word hate, but I do HATE Trump and all those idiots now swarming around the white house putting words in his mouth and ideas in his head. Because we know he can't think for himself. I hate Putin too. I wish there were many more like Zelenskyy in the world.

    1. The Fake President is on the verge of outright senility so it should not be too surprising that he cannot think for himself. He would rather play golf than fulfil daily presidential duties.

  9. Has there ever been an American President quite as despicable and repulsive as Trump? I couldn't argue with any of the above descriptions of him. He's is making America the most hated country on the planet - not great!

  10. There was very little else on the news here yesterday; and all commentators that I heard, including present and former top politicians from right to left, agree with you. Trump "siding" with Putin rather than with Ukraine is indeed extremely worrying. Not only for Ukraine but in the wider perspective also for the whole of Europe.

  12. My heart breaks a little more each day. I wake up and try to talk myself into a positive mood, then the felon does something so unbelievable that it sends me back into my malaise. I am embarrassed to be an American, embarrassed that he was actually elected, embarrassed how he has treated our allies, and embarrassed on how he cozies up to Putin, embarrassed on how Republicans just let this happen. This is a nightmare.

  13. No matter how much we rant against him. He is there. He does not even have what I would describe as the 'normal thinking mind', there is no morality, just lies as given fact. It is a totally weird set up which definitely needs straightening out. We have to believe that it will.

  14. We are only a month into this new USA presidency and that orange idiot has caused so much havoc already. I dread to think what the next four years are going to bring. Unless of course he and Putin blow us all to pieces in the meantime.

  18. Excellent comment that hits the mark. More people need to say this. It won't get to Trump but maybe some of his buddies might start to catch on. The only way this train wreck is solved is for other parts of the government to bring about change ignoring Trump. Trump needs to be bypassed.

  19. unfortunately, what he says in public and what happens in the background aren't necessarily one and the same..... i think he enjoys having immeasurable conflicting viewpoints and positions all at the same time...... all bets are well and truly hedged

  20. They only want an election so they can rig it and get rid of Zelensky. They don't actually think he's a dictator and they wouldn't care if he was; they just want THEIR dictator in the office.
