No! Not that "Pac Man"! This Pakman! The one pictured below - David Pakman the Argentinian-American political commentator. I have been following his You Tube channel for two or three years now
David speaks up for ordinary people and democracy, highlighting failings and serious concerns connected with the conduct of America's current government. I searched this blog for previous references to David Pakman but found none which was pretty surprising.
His voice is calm, intelligent and articulate. He does his research and does not rave like a communist lunatic. In my view, he tells it like it is, picking away at all that is wrong with the current regime - the lies, the broken promises, the personal profiteering, the warmongering, the bully boy insults. Naturally, the current president's behaviour, speeches and actions or lack of them receive special attention on the channel.
David has been mentioned in dispatches by The White House as they have sought to rubbish intelligent dissent - including of course the recent and rather chilling attempt at an authoritarian crackdown on CNN, MSNOW and Politico.
If the idea of America means anything, it includes the freedom to speak up, to object, to point in a different direction and that is what David Pakman does every day of the week. Given all that has been going on since the last presidential election, he has had no shortage of topics to get his teeth into.

Yeah, David Pakman is great. Dave watches him quite a bit. I don't but only because my appetite for YouTube is very low. (TV news as well, for that matter. I get almost all of my news through reading.)

ReplyDeleteI haven't seen Packman. He is good and unlike others who make similar commentary on US politics, he doesn't let the outrage he might feel get the better of him.

ReplyDeleteI heard on our TV news Trump telling her "you shouldn't be here" along with "you're terrible I don't like you" about a different female reporter. Seems he only likes subservient people.
ReplyDeleteThis post is the first time I have come across David Pakman's name. I would have remembered if you had written about him before. (Strangely enough, I have a rather good memory when it comes to blogs but often need to look things up for work which I know I have already looked up before.)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking up in a calm, intelligent, articulate manner on well researched subjects is what makes good journalism. The freedom of exercising this kind of journalism is precious and needs to be defended.
I love David Pakman, have been following him for years. Another one I like is Texas Paul, he is not a newsman just an ordinary person with similar views. Mainly does the shorts on youtube nowadays.
ReplyDeleteI’m with Steve, I don’t watch videos because they always seem to take too long to make the point. It is why I usually find a transcript of a speech and read that as opposed to watching a video of the speech. I have downloaded Parkman’s last book “The Echo Machine” and will give that a go.
ReplyDeleteIt bothers me that people don’t research things. I read a comment a few days ago that Mark Carney is a neo-Marxist! Stupidity. He spent over a decade at Goldman Sachs specializing in M&A.
It's so nice to see a political commentator who is not yelling, but who is rational.
