You never know what you are going to get. Monday was grey and chilly with rain. Tuesday came with blue skies and sunshine so I marched away from the house. My route took me up to the top of Greystones Road then down through the woods into The Porter Valley. I took extra care during my descent because of the stormy, wet weather we had just experienced and the fallen leaves all around. Potentially, a lethal combination.
From Forge Dam I ascended the hill to Fulwood aiming to catch a bus to Broomhill or Hunters Bar.

My first two pictures were taken in the affluent suburb of Fulwood from
viewpoints just five yards apart. The street is called Chorley Road
We have got decorators in our house at the moment, patiently working on the heart of the home - hallway, staircase and landing so it was good to get out. I don't know why exactly but having workmen in our house for any period of time really puts me on edge even when they are as professional and considerate as our decorators have been.
We will be paying them a king's ransom for the transformation - soon to be followed by the expense of new floor coverings but as they say - it will all be worth it in the end. No pain = no gain.

Fulwood's elegant war memorialTalking about pain, I was appalled by recent comments from The President of The USA. Once again, he was banging on about the "injustice" of not being awarded The Nobel Peace Prize. In his crazy wrath, he seemed to equate The Nobel Committee with the kingdom of Norway when in reality the only connection is that the Nobel organisation is based in Norway. How could he be so stupid?
Then he referred to Norway as a "s**thole" of a country, causing many members of his partisan rally crowd to guffaw with laughter. Why? What he said was so wrong, so coarse and so undiplomatic. And that leaves aside the ridiculousness of even contemplating the idea of giving the Nobel Peace Prize to an arrogant, unpredictable world leader who has created an unnecessary war upon Iran and who sides with Putin, the aggressor, in his war upon Ukraine. Where's the peacefulness in that?

I have a notion to camp out in Greystones Cliffe but I'll need to get some
ReplyDeletepersonal security in the shape of a Staffordshire terrier.
Walking in Barnes Common a fortnight ago I saw a Staffie with a head like
the wisest doggie in doggy land. Sitting happily on a park bench with his carer.

I'd rather die of frostbite under the stars than sleep in this coffin bed.
I am so sad we have a President in the USA that is everything you said. Please believe me there are a lot of us here that abhor everything he says and does!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes....Linda from Alabama USA
Yorkshire is such a beautiful county and thank you for sharing your walks with your blog followers. Construction projects are disruptive but the new look will be so worth it. Lastly, someone needs to stuff a sock in POTUS's mouth.
ReplyDeleteI have tried to post a comment.... I just wanted to say I grieve for the horrible things Trump says and does. There are quite a few of us thatvfeel exactly like you.
ReplyDeleteLinda from Alabama
Well, I know that there's very little peace when tradesmen are in the house. You move neatly to the total lack of peace that Trump has created
ReplyDeleteNorway? He is such a dumb dumb. I too have issues having workers in my space; they need to be there to do the job, but it still feels invasive. I love before and after photos. Transformations fascinate me!
ReplyDeleteI read about how he insulted Norway in the newspaper here and thought to myself what a sooky little crybaby he is. And he certainly hasn't EARNED a Nobel Peace Prize, (and never will) does he think they are just randomly given out and it is now HIS turn to get one? "But I aced an IQ test three times!" Actually a cognitive test which he didn't "ace" once, let alone three times, and he thinks taking them makes him smart enough that he should get a Nobel Peace Prize? My disgust for the "man" knows no bounds.
ReplyDeleteThe path in the woods is where I'd love to walk and explore!
ReplyDeleteYou had great weather, perfect to get out of the house and leave the decorators to do their job. Like you, I am not comfortable with "strangers" working in the house, even if I know them personally (my neighbour is a decorator and has done my bedroom/living room switch for me some years ago plus gave my mini hallway a fresh lick of paint).
I hate having workers in my house too. We've had a lot of them recently, and more to come. Every time that the orange nero opens his mouth and says something really stupid (which is literally every time he opens his mouth) it amazes me that he has any support at all. I did see the "speech" where he called Norway what he did. He is such an ass.
ReplyDeleteHe wants people to be obsessed with him, he says outrageous things to get attention. Kind of like a three year old with a temper tantrum to get attention.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Cankles' meltdown was his rage over Obama saying he turned the White House into Saddam Hussein's Cheesecake Factory--an American restaurant chain.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't rage that Obama called him corrupt, or when Obama said he ruined the economy, that tariffs raised prices, that everything costs too much, and not even that Obama compared him to Saddam.
He was pissed Obama made fun of his decorative tastes!
He wants the Nobel because they gave one to Obama. He's obsessed with Obama because somewhere in his shriveled, nasty, evil soul he knows that he'll never be either a president or a man like Obama.
ReplyDeleteAlso factor in the fact that he's mad dog insane.
Even Trump's followers are getting sick of him. I see more criticism in the comments of the right-wing media than I ever used to. People are finally seeing that he is nothing but a cardboard cut-out of a human being with stunted intellect and no morals.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a beautiful neighborhood, complete with beautiful, old buildings like Button and Bar. The man with the beagle looks very suspicious though:)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fan of upset and renos in my house either but needs must. We have to redo the ensuite bathroom this winter and I dread that, but at least I don't use that bathroom, only my husband does.
What lovely, peaceful views. If and when we ever get rain, I'll have to remember to be careful on the wet leaves. I've already had one tumble this year (my first since I reached that age where the nurse asks the question "have you fallen?" at my annual appointment.) I dread having to say yes and that it was a whopper of a fall.
ReplyDeleteLess than a week until midterms. Be prepared, because if things don't go his way there's not telling how he will react!
I just got work completed in the house, all well done, and I'm so glad the drilling and hammering and thumping are done. The quiet is lovely.
