Boxing

It's Boxing Day! The day when families get fed  up with each other and start boxing. Cooped up in the house with flatulent old aunties and toddlers having Christmas tantrums, it is a relief to get the gloves on and crunch some bone.

Biff! Biff! Take that! That'll teach you for buying me Tolstoy's "War and Peace" and Uumph! There's another one for the selection of dark chocolates! Splat! That's for talking incessantly through the Queen's Christmas message. Crrrrunch! And that is for nabbing the last sausage wrapped in bacon (pig in blanket) when my fork was already poised!

Peace and love? Goodwill to all men?... No way!  In the red corner - Yorkshire "The  Henchman" Pudding! In the blue corner Auntie "The Gas Factory" Edith. Seconds out! Now let's box!

REMINDER

The Laughing Horse Blog Awards Ceremony is happening on New Year's Eve in Orlando, Florida! Tickets for this exclusive event are going rapidly. The organising committee urge all nominees to finalise travel and accommodation arrangements as soon as possible in order to avoid potential disappointment. The 2015 designer widget for winners was received in the office earlier today and is shown here for the very first time over on the right. Who will be the 2015 winners? The excitement mounts....

    2. ? Are the flies in England too noisy? How do they survive through the cold? Why would JG bring them to this event?

    3. English flies are very cultured but John' flies are Welsh and therefore difficult to control!

  2. I wonder why no boxing matches took place in my family during Christmas. Maybe it was because we paced it all nicely, with one evening together, one day apart, one afternoon together, the next day apart again, or maybe it has something to do with the fact that the 26th is not called Boxing Day in German. For us, it is simply the 2. Weihnachtsfeiertag.

    1. As your sister is older than you, I am guessing that she would win if a boxing match was arranged between the two of you. Why not stage such an event? It could raise a lot of money for local charities.

  3. Hahahahahaha! Love it!! There haven't been any boxing matches here, either as there's only been me, Remy and Shama.

Although, Remy and I did have a bit of a match-up yesterday when he wanted my computer chair!! I knew I should have bought him one for Christmas!!

If you've run out of food up your way, Yorkie...I'm willing to send you some up. I've enough left-over here to last me through to Easter or yonder! I never learn!

  4. I'm sure your description of boxing day is quite accurate for some families.

    1. Perhaps an exaggeration Red but there is certainly a lot of familial disharmony in some homes at Christmastime.

  5. For the longest time I thought Boxing Day actually DID have something to do with boxing. A common American misconception, I'd wager.

By the way, despite your impressive petition, I have to preserve my mom's privacy so no shots of the interior of her apartment. (Besides, if the dog boarder wants to see it, I am automatically in opposition.)

  6. QI Boxing Day fact: it is technically possible for Boxing Day to precede Christmas Day.

Boxing Dy is defined as 'the first working day after Christmas' so if Christmas falls on a Saturday, Boxing Day is on Monday the 27th and the Christmas Bank Holiday moves to Tuesday the 28th.

Not that anyone could care less I suppose.
