"If ye go will ye send back a letter from America?" - The Proclaimers

Well no, but I will send back some more postcards of our travels:-
Neil Diamond hybrid rose in Portland's wonderful rose gardens.
Portland's moving Holocaust Memorial
Wood - the original basis for economic success in both Washington and Oregon
In downtown Hood River - a delightful town where we watched England's
opening World Cup game in the British Bar
By the mighty Columbia River on our way to Goldendale. This is the
border between Washington and Oregon.
Stonehenge replica near Goldendale. It is actually a memorial
to local men who died in World War I

  1. Merlene and I stopped at the Stonehenge replica a couple of years ago. It's in such an interesting location, up high over the river with all the windmills in the background. A note about Gardner's restaurant: yes, it is very high class. I wish I'd been thoughtful enough to arrange a reservation for you there so I could treat you to dinner. Of course, that sounds very noble in retrospect, but I mean it.

    1. In retrospect - I thank you for the kind thought Jan - especially as our funds are draining away on this holiday. We will soon be destitute ourselves - "Scuse me, can you spare a dollar?"

  2. I like the last image. Perchance even Americans aren't all Latter Day Saints and Bible bashing ignoramuses. Be nice if the country was so broad minded.
A brilliant memorial to a wholly heathen war.

    1. PS. Be better if it weren't there at all but not much we can do about that now.

    2. Now now Adrian! You are being Americophobic! That's almost as bad as racism.

    1. Hell, yes! A mighty river. There were even people windsurfing on it. It had beaches, waves - everything.

  4. My flowers looked like that Neil Diamond hybrid after I finished painting the house...

    1. I wonder what Neil Diamond makes of his pink paint spattered rose?

  5. An interesting collection of the many different facets of a huge country. The holocaust memorial does indeed look very moving, and your blog is the first time I have ever seen the Stonehenge replica.
