There's a chill in the air this morning. Last evening, in fading light, I was picking brambles at the bottom of our garden. By 8.30pm night had fallen. Not so long ago, the sun chose to set much later and darkness didn't arrive till ten thirty or so. We are on the doorstep of autumn.
Yesterday I clicked the relevant button on this laptop to pay for a week's holiday in Croatia. We will be leaving very early tomorrow morning. Our flight from Manchester to Dubrovnik is scheduled to depart at 6.15. Then we will have a two hour bus journey north to Orebic where our holiday hotel is located - on a peninsula that faces the island of Korkula.
Sadly, we will be leaving a glut of plums behind and our fridge is filled with food because we were not expecting our holiday departure to be so very imminent. That's the internet for you. It used to be that you needed to plan foreign holidays way in advance but now you can click today and go tomorrow.
I think the weather in Orebic will be rather mixed. There'll be warm sunny days and maybe a couple of rainy ones too. But I have my secondhand copy of "Beloved" by Toni Morrison to wile away the hours.
The next time I blog, it will hopefully be from Orebic though a couple of Trip Advisor reviews have forewarned me that the WiFi in the Aminess Grand Azur Hotel is notoriously unreliable. We'll see.
Orebic - I thought it was a White Star line ship.ReplyDelete
That was "The Titanic" Tasker.Delete
Oh! Then you'd better be wary of icebergs in Croatia.Delete
Enjoy your holiday. What more need I say?ReplyDelete
What more need you say?... "Please give me your bank details so that I can transfer two hundred quid to you for holiday money."Delete
Last minute holidays are usually the best kind. Have a great time. It should be quiet and relaxing at this time of year. Don't forget to set your alarm.ReplyDelete
My wife is my alarm. Like most wives she is very alarming.Delete
I would call you a gadabout but my jealousy would be showing.ReplyDelete
Come and join us Bob. It's a big bed. There's room for three...Delete
The 11th commandment: Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's vacation.ReplyDelete
I hope you don't snore.Delete
Have a marvellous time!ReplyDelete
I will try hard to obey your command Kylie.Delete
A post-wedding holiday is just the ticket. Hope you have more sunny days than not. Enjoy. Safe travels.ReplyDelete
Though it was a real joy to do it, working to make our daughter's wedding successful took its toll on both of us.Delete
That looks heavenly! Who said that the wedding couple should be the only ones to go on a honeymoon?ReplyDelete
It's not Cozumel but it will do.Delete
That looks like a beautiful place to spend a week. Enjoy.ReplyDelete
We hope we have picked wisely.Delete
Wow! That was sudden! Why the rapid departure? Did you get a great deal? Dave and I have talked about going to Croatia (or somewhere along that coastline) but we haven't gotten our act together to actually do it. Can't wait to hear how it goes!ReplyDelete
Yes it was sudden. Booked it yesterday. going tomorrow. I guess that there are many different ways of experiencing Croatia - it is such a long and varied coast with many islands.Delete
Enjoy. I am so jealous, as Dubrovnik is one of my favorite places. Less the tourists of course.ReplyDelete
I don't know if we will even go to Dubrovnik - two hours there and two hours back.Delete
Thank you Steph.Delete
How wonderful just to be wandering in your garden and brambles one day and then the next a sudden visit to a foreign place. Cool!! Be safe and have great fun by the water. (I have to go look up that island now.) . Ta Ta!!ReplyDelete
We will have to watch out for the sea urchins.Delete
Enjoy your well deserved holiday in Croatia. You both worked long and hard on the wedding and this should be just what you need.ReplyDelete
I just received the lovely beer mat, thank you! I am recouperating from knee

I am pleased it arrived safely Bonnie - a tiny piece of our joyous day.Delete
Boy! You are certainly a holiday-maker! Have a wonderful break. A timely much-needed rest after all the hectic wedding arrangements and actual event. Steve can look after the property while you're away! :)ReplyDelete
Oh dear! He might gnaw the place to pieces!Delete
Have a great time.ReplyDelete
You must be nearly there by now! Have a lovely rest.ReplyDelete
Enjoy ! Hope the travel arrangements go according to plan, and you have a safe trip and relaxing holiday.ReplyDelete
A bit of rest is just what you need after the weeks leading up to the wedding and the actual event itself. Quite a few people I know have been holidaying in Croatia this year, it seems the place to be. Have a safe journey and good time there!ReplyDelete
