I improved this week with a 90%. I missed Madagascar. I got Zanzibar in my head for some reason and couldn't get past that.
ReplyDeleteSo far - you are the Clever Clogs of the week Kelly. Well done! Zanzibar is part of Tanzania.
DeleteI got 5 correct and made a correct guess at the 6th.
ReplyDeleteI'm happy enough with that
If you fly over to England I can give you a crash course in world geography. Better still you can buy me a plane ticket to Sydney.
DeleteDo you offer geography courses by zoom?
DeleteNo. We find we need to be face-to-face in person to advance our instruction programme.
DeleteWell, I'm on a real high . got seven of these today.
ReplyDeleteYou may be 82 but the grey matter is still functioning!
DeleteI got 9 out of 10 easily but missed Tokyo’s island.
ReplyDeleteThat score puts you in the clever clogs category Robert! I hope you are well old friend.
Delete1. Tasmania
ReplyDelete2.Haiti
3. Reykjavik [thank the goddess for spell-check!]
4. Easter Island.
5. Madagascar [this was an answer on Jeopardy tonight which is why I know it!]
6. Alcatraz ... been there ... for a protest, not as a prisoner!
7. Not a clue ....
8. Sicily [just a guess]
9. 44 [again a guess]
10. Honshu [guessing still!]
80%; not too shabby.
#6 is where #47 should be locked up.
DeleteThat sounds lovely!
DeleteI knew you meant Tasmania to be the answer for 1, but New Zealand could also be an answer. It just depends how far! Living in Sydney I think of Tasmania as off the southern coast, albeit at the eastern end.
ReplyDeleteEven now I think it might be theoretically possible for NZ to join Australia as a seventh state in accordance with the (UK) Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900 under which the various states were brought together in 1901.
You are clearly a bright chap Marcellous but not bright enough to realise that New Zealand consists of not one but two major islands. Also, "lying off Australia's south east coast" suggests closer proximity than 2500 miles.
DeleteWell, of course, you are the teacher, sorry, quizmaster, but:
Delete1. "island state" not the same as "one-island state;"
2. Internet tells me "shortest distance (air line) between Sydney and Auckland is 1,339.90 mi (2,156.36 km)."
3. I was going to offer some fascinating numbers about the number of islands in Tasmania, NZ, and in (England + Scotland + Wales), until I saw your cunning deployment of "main island."
4. Likewise I was going to offer as an example of usage the classic text "Our Island Story" until I worked out that the island in question is a fascinating initial fudge of England (part of an island), Great Britain (England Scotland and Wales (slipped in)) with a further fudge to bring Ireland.
Not so much bright as restless and in year 9.
I shall skulk in my fetid cave until dinnertime. I bet real TV quizmasters don't have to cope with such surly feedback. A quizmaster should be allowed to exist unchallenged on a higher plane - like a God of knowledge.
Delete7 this week, I missed 2, 8 and 9.
ReplyDeleteUnsurprising. They were tricky ones.
Delete7/10.
ReplyDeleteWell, you didn't teach Geography Margaret so no shame in that.
Delete6/10. I knew the answer for Japan but Hokkaido has been on my mind of late.
ReplyDeleteI expect better from you Andrew!
DeleteI got nine out of ten, wasn‘t sure about the number of British islands.
ReplyDeleteUntil I set the question, I didn't know either. I had to doublecheck it. By the way, last night on "Pointless", Ripon scored zero along with Dunfermline. The question was: Name British cities that do not contain the letter "a".
DeleteThat‘s not a particular hard question, is it! Even without really thinking about it, I can rattle off a list of names (Ripon included).
Delete9 out of 10. Phew.
ReplyDeleteYou are now officially a clever clogs.
DeleteMy best yet!....I got 8. I missed 2 and 8.
ReplyDeleteEasily done lass.
Delete7/10 today, didn't know the answer to 2,5 (I thought Zanzibar, too), or 10.
ReplyDeleteHang on! You did A level Geography!
DeleteDon't remind me!
DeleteOnly 2, and I got the season wrong for Easter Island, and thought it was Christmas.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Perhaps you should stick to poetry and story-telling.
DeleteOnly 5 this week. I was never any good at Metal Work.
ReplyDeleteToo busy joking with your mates! "David would make better progress if he paid more attention."
DeleteI knew the first 6 of them, then I failed.
ReplyDeleteThere were a few hard ones. I didn't want to make it too easy David.
DeleteHello...missed questions 5 and 9 and had a lucky guess with Sicily.
ReplyDelete6/10, but three more were lurking in my memory only just out of reach... No 2 I'd probably have failed to come up with however long I'd waited, though!
ReplyDelete7 out of 10 this week. Missed 7, 8 and 10. After being pretty sure of the first six, I got cocky, I guess. How 'bout a quiz about Arizona?
