Quiztime

It is symptomatic of patriarchal societies  that far more men make names for themselves than women do. Historically, the vast majority of women have shunned the limelight, often beavering away in the background and of course, rather than pursuing fame, a lot of them focus on their families and homes.  That being said, thousands of women have found fame and this quiz gives you ten of them but who are they? With each picture there's  a helpful clue. Answers given in Comments.

  7. 5.5 - I gave myself a half a point for getting Jacinda and docked a half for not getting her last name. Also I was extremely honest and didn't claim a point for Indira Ghandi even though her name was on the tip of my tongue. hah. I did get Lady Gaga, Barbara Hepworth, Maya Angelou, Steffi Graf, and guessed Aung San Suu Kyi. All in all, not a great showing, considering I should know more about this topic!

  10. Good quiz. The fact I don't recognize Lady Gaga or Kate Blanchett says something about my lack of pursuit of celebrity news. Also didn't know Maya Angelou so will now go and read about her.

    1. As a secondary school teacher, I worked alongside women throughout my career and I observed how commonly men sought to dominate meetings. As a leader I was very conscious of the need to give women the platform. I am sure you are right that many women were cheated of the approbation they deserved.
