What do you think about different corned beef brands? All of us could do with expert advice as I am sure it is a pressing issue for all corned beef consumers. That is why I turned to Bald Foodie Guy...
Bald Foodie Guy lives in the north west of England and I must declare explicitly that HE IS NOT ME!
There's a lot of stuff happening out there in the world right now. From religious wars to grifting presidents and from A.I. to the rise of the right. It's hard to keep your eyes on things that really matter - like selecting the best corned beef brands from discount supermarkets. Thank you Bald Foodie Guy!
I have not eaten corned beef in decades. I have to tell you though, I do very much love a good corned beef hash with potatoes and onions.
ReplyDeleteMmm... You are making my mouth water at the prospect.
DeleteCorned beef from a tin!! Extraordinary.
ReplyDeleteI suppose it is. One day it might reach Melbourne supermarkets along with cream crackers and bananas.
DeleteAndrew, Andrew, Andrew. Did you never see these cans in supermarkets as a child? They have been around forever, though I haven't noticed them lately but that would be because I don't look for them.
DeleteI am not a big fan of corned beef and if I do want some I buy it presliced off a larger piece in the deli section at the supermarket and it is always nice. I remember the canned stuff from childhood, ham too from a can with a key to wind it open, but don't remember the brands. Probably they are still available, but I never seek them out. I remember the ham had jelly while the corned beef had the fat like the one in the video and my dad would carefully remove that and sling it in the frying pan to cook his eggs.
ReplyDeleteI do wonder about the "awful/nasty" tasting one with that greenish tinge at one end, if maybe it went "off" being kept in a cupboard with the heatwave, and possibly stored wrongly before it ever got to the store. I know I wouldn't buy it again no matter what the reason was.
How did you get so posh Elsie? Having corned beef sliced at the deli counter. I bet you drink wine too!
DeleteThe deli pre-slices all meats and you make your selections from the refrigerated tubs behind the glass. If you want thicker slices, then they will slice it for you while you wait. Wine is awful stuff, bleh!
Delete"Foodie" and tinned corn beef. Who would have thort?
ReplyDeleteIn England's north west, people have sophisticated eating habits and preferences.
DeleteInteresting long review on corn beef, what is the world coming to? I remember hash from the olden days, a student's meal it was., fried up in the frying pan.
ReplyDeleteI thought students smoked hash Thelma.
DeleteThat reminds me of the tin of Aldi Corned Beef that's in my store cupboard in the kitchen, and has been there for years. It is rare that I feel like eating corned beef but I like to know that I can have it when I want.
ReplyDeleteWhy not treat OK to a corned beef salad?
DeleteYears??? I would think it might not be any good by now.
DeleteA lot of my foodbank customers ask for corned beef, but it is rather expensive so is not donated to or bought in by the foodbank. They have to make do with tinned ham or chicken instead.
ReplyDeleteDo they like smashed avocado and chick peas?
DeleteI stay away from meat in a can.
ReplyDeleteYou triggered a memory. Back in the day my mom made corned beef hash with potatoes and onions. I haven't had that in a long, long time. On St. Patrick's Day, I do fix a corned beef brisket with potatoes, carrots, and onions. No Irish blood here but it's fun to recognize a holiday with food.
ReplyDeleteI am the only one in the house that will eat canned corned beef. A taste of childhood.
ReplyDeleteI'm flabbergasted. 😳😳😳
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I've ever eaten corned beef, much less bought it!
ReplyDeleteI like a good corned beef Reuben sandwich, although not quite as much as when it's made with super thin sliced pastrami. Mmm now I want a Reuben!!
ReplyDeleteFor our Independence Day cookout we're having grilled hot dogs with cheese and homemade chili, grilled Mexican sweet corn, watermelon, and ice cream. Even if we're not thrilled with our country at the moment we're still going to have a festive birthday meal for her. :)
I don't think I ever even tasted corned beef. (?) This makes me remember that in the past, my mum sometimes bought canned ham in the summer, though.
ReplyDeleteI love corned beef, I have it often on my sandwiches for work. I always avoid the Brazilian sourced meat.
