As I was walking up Carr Road, Walkley yesterday, I was startled to see the car sticker shown at the top of this blogpost. I had never seen one before.
The man shown in profile is Nigel Farage, the millionaire leader of Britain's right wing Reform Party. He is the same right wing politician who led UKIP (United Kingdom Independence Party) when this country foolishly voted to leave The European Union in 2017.
Although chummy and plausible, I would not trust Farage as far as I could throw him. He has had an insidious effect on British politics and our nation's morale. His right wing agenda is sugar coated in chumminess and plausibility. But his politics come from the same bitter cauldron brewed by the architects of the MAGA movement in America.
Farage has used his anti-immigration sophistry to win over big sections of the British working class even though his loyalties lie firmly with moneymakers and landowners. The Reform Party have recently received huge donations from two crypto-billionaires - demonstrating that Farage and his gang remain a force to be reckoned with as politics in this country evolve.
Farage admires the current occupant of The White House even though his Make America Great Again nonsense has clearly failed miserably, crumbling like The East Wing of The People's House.
I find all of this both depressing and scary and I am hugely disappointed that millions of working class voters currently seem unable to see what Farage and his Reform Party are really all about. Nigel Farage = Nigel Charade.
But look closely at that car sticker at the top. Has someone altered it? Farage appears to be sporting a moustache that is reminiscent of the one that belonged to Little Adolf Hitler. It looks different from the sticker you can order online should you possess those kind of right wing tendencies...
I would strongly advise you and everyone else in Britain who is of sound mind to rise up now and beat that movement down as soundly as you can. If we had not thought the Tea Party was a harmless fad, America wouldn't be in the dire straits we are in now.
ReplyDeleteIf Farage is a kind of Hitler, was the late Anne Widdecombe his Goebbels ?
ReplyDeletePerhaps this was in the mind of Anne's killer who struck her 21 times with
a hammer in her own home.

Well you can't call them MAGAts but I'm sure you'll come up with something. I agree with Lisa above.... get yourself a big club and use it right now.
ReplyDeleteThe extreme right is a threat in every western country. The hate and bigotry peddled by the extreme right will destroy Britain, not make it "great again."
ReplyDeleteThe right wing stuff is scary. It seems that it has to be led by a character who can attract people ...with lies.
ReplyDeleteYP, if you are going to ink-in such a moustache again you need a darker ink.
ReplyDeleteSomeone has also added a big black mole to his cheek. I wonder about those who believe and blindly follow, just as the red hats do in the US. Maybe I am better off with not understanding politics so never blindly following any politician or party.
ReplyDeleteCan't stand the man, a small minded grifter out to sell crypto for his pals, Also reckon that his ship is sinking as people recognise this.
ReplyDeleteI am not sure the MBGA is so catchy. Now if you used England, MEGA, or Ireland, MIGA, they would work.
ReplyDeleteWe have our own version of Farage, one Pauline Hanson, who is a shocker and I will write about her in the future. I don't know if the moustache makes the sticker better or worse. Perhaps the person would be prefer Farage to be like Hitler, or the person is taking the piss out of Farage.
That altered moustache on the sticker is a striking, almost darkly comic detail — someone clearly wanted to make a very specific point. Political stickers spotted on ordinary streets like that always feel like a small but telling snapshot of where public sentiment is heading.

I have been following Farage and his rise in the UK with interest as I've drawn parallels in my own mind to the orange felon occupying the White House. And like you, I cannot for the life of me understand why working class citizens support someone who is rich and connected to power brokers, etc. When I listen to the felon speak, (which I must admit I try and avoid if my mental health is a little wobbly) I am just incredulous that people don't see through his multiple lies. If I had a dollar for every time he blamed Joe Biden for things, I could buy a yacht.
ReplyDeleteHe sounds quite familiar.
ReplyDeleteBut he's not orange enough.
Please don't let the country fall into that trap.
ReplyDeleteLike a piece of rotten fruit whose juices have seeped into the rest of the bowl in which it rests, the US is spoiling and rotting as much of the world as it can.
ReplyDeleteAny extreme views are scary, zealots=narrow minded bigotry.
ReplyDeleteSometimes not easy these days (if if ever was!) to distinguish between just really bad advertising and mockery of the same...
ReplyDeleteHe's a dangerous voice loved by bigots and so called "patriots" - these are the times where we have to be very careful.
