Bosh!

Our beloved son Ian is currently working in a creative office in London. Recently, his main focus has been on developing a series of video clips that swiftly demonstrate meal or snack preparation.  All foodstuffs shown are vegan. These fast-moving  clips arrive on mobile phones or Facebook pages with the signature "Bosh!". Several of them  have already been seen over a million times and a partnership has been established with "Pret A Manger", the up-market healthy sandwich company who are presently developing a new vegan range.
It used to be that advertising was all about TV commercials, pages in magazines or giant posters on hoardings (American: billboards) but these days a lot of that is old hat and increasingly businesses are seeking to harness social media in order to push their products more effectively. "Bosh!" is one small part of that movement.

    1. Veganism is a growing movement in the western world but they'll never recruit me. Even so from time to time a nice vegan meal can be most appetising. Nice to know that your Dorothy (in Oz) had already spotted "Bosh!"

    1. Facebook is something I have kept well clear of myself. Numerous young teachers have dug holes for themselves with Facebook posts and pictures that their pupils or their local communities might check out.

  3. That looks very interesting, Yorkie...and later this morning or this afternoon when I have some spare time...I'll take a good look at the site. I've only had a quick look at this stage. From my brief look there appears to be some very tasty recipes shown.

    Good on Ian...I wish him well with his venture.

  5. Your son does some quality work, that's a very effective ad campaign. Over a million views per video is impressive! I'm sure a lot of foodies and healthy eaters are getting some great tips with those quick demo recipes.

    1. The idea is to build support and then to make money from the food industry. Some has arrived but more pounds/dollars are required. We will see.

  6. Interesting! I love how there even IS an organized "broccoli industry."

    Why ARE billboards called "hoardings" here? I've never understood that. And it's more than just billboards, isn't it -- like plywood walls around construction sites and that kind of thing? Someday I need to explore the linguistics involved. What, exactly, is being hoarded?

    1. An old meaning of "hoarding" was "a hurdle or fence enclosing a house and materials while builders are at work". Long ago it became the habit to put posters or bills on these temporary boards. The word probably comes from the Germanic word "hourd" - meaning a barrier or palisade.
