Trapped

Help! Let me out of here!

For the last few days, I have been trapped in our house. She who must be obeyed has been swanning off to work, leaving me to get on with decorating our hallway, stairs and landing. The colour is "natural calico" and of course the expensive "one coat" paint will require two coats, Thank heavens for Radio 4 which has helped me to endure this unwelcome incarceration. Five hours of decorating drudgery today and a full day tomorrow so that on Wednesday - when the weather forecast is encouraging, I shall once more have licence to plod for miles in the countryside.

Masking tape, sheets and plastic to cover carpets. On Saturday, I was horrified to see that the modern eco-friendly "Dulux" paint had seeped its way under the masking tape into rivulets around the edges of our landing window with its nineteen twenties bobbly glass. I had to get wire brushes to the mess. Two more hours of slave labour.

And when you are trapped like this, there's little you can blog about so instead I will just share more pictures from last week's lovely walk around Crane Moor, Silkstone Common and Thurgoland - it's the same day I saw the mining memorial in the woods... Click to enlarge

  2. I love that last photo. I won't comment on your renovation woes because I love painting and masking and cutting in and all that stuff. But check this out ~ it might put your troubles into perspective http://naomipicks.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/mews-news-part-3-renovation-updates.html?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_medium=FeedBlitzRss&utm_campaign=FeedBlitzRss&utm_content=Mews+News+Part+3+-+Renovation+updates

    1. CSW - You have not employed a builder, you have employed a philosopher!

  4. Well, you were the one who chose Communism so stop whining and get on with it! I would just employ a couple of consumptive emaciated children for pennies and set them to work while I supervised from an armchair!

The last job like that I had to do was installing Marcia's kitchen. What a misery that was. I still have the tiling to do. I won't start that until she starts complaining!

Yesterday she told me that rather than paint the walls inside the cottages, she would like me to wallpaper them. AAARGH!!!!

    1. Yes, I agree with Marcia. Some nice wallpaper - like they used to have in some English pubs in the seventies - gold background with a slightly raised velveteen repeating pattern in mauve. Send me a tea-chest stuffed with kwanza and I'll source a few rolls for you. We DIY guys have to stick together.

  5. Why are you suddenly wearing a bobble hat? I hope you were luckier with the weather today than we were. We were promised sun too and all we got was cloud.

    1. Yes Lee. I'm sure you know how manipulative women can be - using their cunning to harness unsuspecting men like me. If God meant me to be a painter and decorator he'd have given me brushes in place of hands.
