90%

Two boys and an old woman murdered by Israel.
Ninety per cent of Israelis are in favour of what their government has recently instructed its military machine to do. Ninety per cent are in favour of bombing schools, hospitals and most recently Gaza's only electricity power plant. Ninety per cent are in favour of killing innocent women and children. Ninety per cent are in favour of the unconscionable blaming of Hamas for Israeli attacks - turning the truth on its head. Ninety per cent are in favour of trundling out the same lame excuses about Hamas rocket launching sites in order to justify the outrageous mass murder of frightened Palestinians.

The Israelis have killed far more than a thousand now and injured many more people than that. In contrast, the small Israeli death toll mainly consists of forty five soldiers from their invasion force. What do they expect? You invade a desperate, overcrowded and beleaguered little country and you expect no angry response? Now their latest coverall lame excuse is to cite the alleged  intricate network of tunnels that Israel claims is a major threat to its security.

And what is America doing? What is the useless United Nations doing? Nothing. Nothing at all. They are letting innocent Palestinians die, silently condoning the brutality. History has taught us to be sorrowful for Jews and what they endured in World War II but their military onslaught upon Gaza is ironically like a mini-holocaust for Palestinians. Dying in a gas chamber at Auschwitz or dying under a pile of concrete in Gaza - what's the difference?

Ninety per cent of onlookers from the rest of the world say to Israel - You are wrong! This is not the way! Ninety per cent shudder about the horror of it all. Ninety per cent say that the way to solve differences is through talking - no matter how difficult those negotiations might be. I have already sent £25 to Oxfam's Gaza Appeal. I should probably be sending more but we Yorkshiremen are as tight as they come and to get £25 out of me is like getting regrets for what is happening out of Benjamin Netanyahu.

  1. It comes down to the will to do anything. It's just stupid to feel a moral obligation to Israel because of the Holocaust.
We felt no such compunction over Serbia and Yugoslavia after Churchill and Stalin divided that country. Come to think, Churchill also had a hand in creating Israel.
    It's a right balls up.
America must turn the dollar tap off and we must stop buying anything from Israel. Spar had Israeli beans and folk round here won't touch them. He has told Spar no more of the crap from Israel.
They are arrogant beyond belief and a murderous crew to boot.
I'll e-mail Dithery. See what he has to say. Fat twat probably believes they are right. Never believe a Tory when he says he is a man of the people. What he means is he wants the people to work for him. He's happy enough mixing with Saudi's so is the Queen. Hardly role models for human rights but neither are the royals.
Evil bastards we didn't elect, they should be jumping all over Israel. Preferably with the last bit of fire power we have. Surely our navy is big enough to shut Haifa down. It's the bastards only port and their weak link.
Thanks for the post. Yael, an Arab Israeli and an ex girlfriend e-mailed. She is sad that Yohannutta got in charge.

    1. Why has Israel got carte blanche to invade and kill indiscriminately? And as Peace Thyme says below - what are the other Arab countries doing to get behind the Palestinians? Their silence is deafening.

    2. They haven't got Carte Blanche. Get onto the good old USA. Israel can't exist without the American money.
The other Arab countries couldn't care less Israel is a western creation and therefore a western problem.
Think about it. They think long term.

  2. What I fail to understand is why other Arab countries are not falling all over themselves to help those poor people. They have always, always been completely silent and non-reactive when it comes to the Palestinians and their problems. I thought that maybe it was because of the sect that the Hamas leaders are. But no, they are Sunni as are the majority of the Arab world.

It is so horrible that these people have absolutely no place to go. They are not allowed to escape the violence even if they could. And, no one in this country is thinking of them at all. In fact, quite the opposite. There are rallies being held in states everywhere in support of what Israel is doing. Why our ties to that country are so strong and non-wavering is just beyond comprehension in the face of the slaughter that is happening this week.

    1. At least you are one of the voices in America'a heartland - one of those who sees things differently from the majority. You people need to turn your whispers into an almighty scream - NO! NO! NO! - For the children.

    2. It's because most of your compatriots are insular, narrow minded bigots. Just thick, the majority don't know that Paris isn't in Texas.

    3. Also, Christian conservative fundamentalists here are all about supporting Israel 100%, no matter what, they think it is necessary for Israel to be strong for Jesus to come back. I don't understand their reasoning for this, but they are dangerous and are using any means necessary to gain power. Given the chance, they will turn parts of the US into war zones like Gaza. Religion, in all it's forms, is the root of the problem here and in the Middle East.

Plenty of my compatriots might be insular, narrow minded bigots, but plenty (most) are not. Some of us really care about situations like the one in Gaza, so please don't be rude to Americans. Ordinary people here are mostly helpless to change what the bad parts of the government (and big corporations!) do in our name. No need to add insult to injury.

    4. Well said Jennifer. In all societies there are ignorant people and in my experience America has a similar percentage to any other developed country. I rather like the slogan that will sometimes reappear at anti-war rallies - "NOT IN MY NAME!"

  3. "They are arrogant beyond belief and a murderous crew to boot."

So nothing much has changed since Biblical times. Except now it's American money and not Jehovah's favor that allows this carnage. I don't think the majority here support this. Unfortunately, we'll criticize the Russians for not trying to control Putin, but we here in the U.S. also have a government that's out of control. And ours believes we're all so stupid and well-conditioned that we won't notice.

    1. Jan, you are brave and well said. Our PM is a wimp if ever there was a case for intervention this is it. Brits should be in there and now. You lot can follow to bail us out when it goes belly up.

    2. Adrian, you are right about our PM. He is a programmed robot, repeating the same old line about Israel being allowed to defend itself - defend itself against a small race of people who do not have an army, navy or air force.

  4. You are right, YP. The Israelis are the Nazis of the 21st century and the rest of the world is standing by the sidelines watching and not doing anything about it, just as they did in the 2nd world war. This is the one time when we need to interfere in another country, but where are our great leaders? And I won't even begin to think about our "esteemed" Middle East Envoy...he had a lavish party in his Jerusalem mansion while Israel was bombarding Paelstine.

    1. Surely you are not talking about The Lost Prophet of the Red Cloak - Saint Antony? I can't blair him these days. He has sold his soul - not to The Catholic Church but to Mammon. His influence in the Middle East has been non-existent - maybe detrimental. Greedy bugger.

    2. Yes, Bliar Bliar, pants on fire. I think he is a highly functioning psychopath myself.

  5. How can "a small race of people who do not have an army, navy or air force" have fired 3,000 rockets into Israel in the few weeks since the three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped and murdered? Oh, yeah, I forgot. They elected HAMAS, a terrorist organization, to be their leaders.

    1. I take it you don't see anything on Fox or CNN News about 'normal' life in Gaza and how the Palestinians are persecuted on a daily basis by the Israelis. There is fault on both sides but the force Israel is using is disproportionate to the threat from Gaza. I have never seen a dead child before, never mind one lying dead in a pool of blood. There have been hundreds of them in Gaza. Does that not touch even a small part of you?

By the way, Israel also elected a terrorist leader.

    2. The HAMAS rockets that Israel are always banging on about are pathetic in comparison to Israel's massive firepower. Mostly those rockets never hit their targets and when they do they often cause minimal damage and they have been to blame for only a handful of Israeli deaths. It's like somebody hitting you with a conker on a string so you strike back with a sledgehammer.

  6. Hamas does not believe that Israel has a right to exist. Israel denies the Palestinians the right to their own autonomous homeland. Man's inhumanity to man has always been beyond my comprehension and one would think (and I was brought up in Liverpool with Jewish friends) that what the Jews went through would have given them a greater understanding of the fact that they are denying the Palestinians exactly what the Jews fought for and achieved.
