Dragonfly

Specially for gipsy blogger Adrian of "Adrian's Images", I am posting these two pictures of a dragonfly that landed on our tiled terrace in Gran Canaria. May I quickly apologise for the poor standard of these pictures which will probably cause tech-savvy Dr Adrian a considerable amount of unbridled mirth. As one of the blogosphere's leading authorities on the dragonfly, I would suggest that this one is  a good example of CROCOTHEMIS ERYTHRAEA better known as the Common Scarlet-Darter. Later it landed next to my glass of chilled "San Miguel" and in a squeaky dragon fly voice granted me one wish and so  I wished that the western world's assault upon The Islamic State would not involve very many unreported collateral deaths - innocent  women and children and men who do not subscribe to the jihadist nonsense that has burst from the seeping sores that Bush and Blair created in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The species is widespread in Africa, southern Europe, the Middle East, and west Asia, extending as far east as Yunnan in China. I am referring to the dragonfly and not the jihadist nutcases.

  1. Not at all. We all have to start somewhere and these are not that blurry. I would accept your ID. I just take the pictures and Trevor tells me what I've taken. They are wee devils for settling in bright sun and casting a shadow.
I love insects and would be happy with these. You maybe have a macro setting on your camera. It often looks like a little flower. Try that. I used to find it brilliant on a small sensor.

    1. Macro? I thought that was a kind of Ford car - between the Maestro and the Mondeo. I will certainly check again.

    2. You check but don't get confused with tiny Italian pasta. It's an easy mistake to make.

  2. Do you get Jon Stewart's show in England?

    1. No never heard of Jon Stewart Jan. I will check him out on YouTube in the next day or two. Is it a dragonfly show?

    2. Not a dragonfly show, but I think you'll appreciate his cheekiness. Also Stephen Colbert's show.

  3. This is interesting; I have never thought of what kind of voice a dragonfly has. Squeaky, you say this one's was. Rubbery-squeaky or rusty-door-hinges-squeaky?
I sincerely hope your wish was granted.

    2. I also reviewed his book. I enjoyed it, he is not a bad writer but hides his whatsits behind a bushell. He gave me a ticking off for referring to him as Nell.
      No pleasing some folk.

    3. MISS ARIAN Thank you for your support re. "The Headland". And the dragonfly's squeakiness was of course like the voice of a baby dragon. That is why they are called dragonflies!
ADRIAN You have a long memory sir! But your honest response to my little e-book also gave me a lift. Soon I hope to launch a collection of my poems. Thy should help to send you to sleeep when the wind is rocking your camper van.

  4. Looking forward to the release of your Anthology YP, as I have mentioned previously. I work with a lady who also writes poetry, and she gave me a copy of hers. But your comment above suggests you will be publishing in e-format again?Poetry is so lovely to have on the bookshelf or side table. Would you consider making some available in printed format? Not sure if that is an option on Amazon publishing or whether you would have to source a printer locally. University printers are always good at that kind of thing here. Plus we have a very good printer who specialises in small runs.

  5. Well, first I read your latest post about going to that "Pride" movie and then I sauntered down to this post and when I saw the content, this was all I could think of.........wow, this first picture would be great in one of those fantisy movies where a giant species of animal/bird takes over the world. There is the first one of said giant species landing on the runway of Denver International Airport!! hahaha. Anyway, maybe I am tired or drunk or both!
