Blogkeeping

Acer tree foliage in Whirlow Brook Park this afternoon

In blogging, people come and people go. Favourite "go to" bloggers may fade away. Perhaps they got bored with blogging or found something better to do with their time.

For a few years, I had almost daily blogworld meetings with Jan Blawat in Sloughhouse, California. Her blog was called "Cosumne Gal" but she hasn't added any more blogposts in five and a half years so I think that it is nigh time to  remove her blog link from my "Blogorama" list in the sidebar. I shall replace "Cosumne Gal" with "Drifting Through Life"  by River out of Adelaide, South Australia.

Another blog that has been mothballed is called "The Autumn of My Life" by Donna out of Colorado, USA. We were very much on the same wavelength and at times she was like the big sister I never had. I know that she still calls by "Yorkshire Pudding" from time to time and so our connection will never be entirely severed. I will replace Donna with Bruce from Prescott Valley, Arizona. He is the mastermind behind "Oddball Observations" and his pen name is Catalyst.

Whirlow Brook Hall this afternoon

I keep visiting both River and Catalyst's blogs without the convenience of  sidebar links but tonight that is going to change.

There are one or two other blogs not listed in "Blogorama" that I keep visiting and  my blog management committee are considering adding them to the side list too.

Nothing lasts forever does it? When I look back, there a number of bloggers who have departed the scene and whose presence was once meaningful to me. But time marches on and everything changes.

Welcome to River and to Catalyst!

  1. I regretfully thinned out my blog reading list not too long ago. I miss those that stopped blogging and hope that they all are still above ground and just moved on to other pursuits.

    1. Rover is a dog's name. I don't think River would appreciate that Bob.

  4. My reading list contains quite a few blogs that have not been updated in years, too. For many of these bloggers, I do not have contact details other than their blog and don't even know their real names, so have no way of finding out what happened to them. With others, I did email them but never heard back, and I fear they have either died or are not able to type any longer. Of course some may simply not be bothered with the whole blogging world anymore, but it would have been a polite gesture to their readers to let them know and close down their blogs properly.

Anyway, your pictures are beautiful, as always.

    1. I agree with the principle of closing down properly. One of my favourite bloggers died from breast cancer and it was her sister who closed down the blog. I shed a tear or two for Molly Printemps.

  5. Thank you :) I haven't adjusted my reading list in years, but those not on it are listed under "Favourites" in my toolbar (taskbar?) so I can find them there. I don't know if I can list them on a sidebar on my blog and I'm not going to try in case I stuff up the works and lose everyone.

    1. Now that you are in my sidebar you should get thousands more visitors each week... well maybe dozens... maybe two or three.

  6. Very many bloggers have disappeared from my reading list too and I wonder what happened to them. I have also found my readership has decreased considerably since my husband died. I guess they were more excited by the drama going on at the time.

    1. To be frank ADDY, it doesn't help that there are often big time gaps between your posts. It's a little sad if some people visited your blog because of the tragedy that unfolded there. I sometimes forget to visit your blog because of those time gaps.

  7. I have had a few of my blog " friends" not posting for ages, and I also just added Catalyst to my bookmarks bar! I found him through a comment on your blog a few days ago.

  9. It's worrying when blogs just stop with no goodbye or explanation.
That's a lovely picture of Whirlowbrook Hall. I attended several dinner dances there over the years, organising a few myself, and it was a fabulous venue. The last time I was there was for my nephew's wedding in February. The weather was about as foul as it can be in Sheffield in February but it didn't spoil their day, just that the day was so dark all the photos had to be taken indoors.

P.S. I love Whirlow Brook Park. So peaceful. A good place to read without much distraction.

I'm often amazed at the number of blogs some people follow - their lists are endless. How do they manage to do anything else with their days if they read each and every one!

  16. I started my blog eleven years ago. Over time I accumulated quite a few followers { although Google took away quite a few at one point for some reason ! } I also used to get about 100 comments at one point. Then, Facebook and Instagram came along and many Bloggers left and joined all of the new social media platforms. I've stuck with Blogging as I like it. It's the modern way of having pen friends from all over the world. I need to do a bit of Blog Management on my blog ..... I've got people on my list that haven't posted for years ! XXXX

  17. I love a nice blog list! I am a blog reader so it helps me find other interesting blogs to read. I found a lot of my blogs through the Weaver of Grass blog. I can waste a good hour or two each morning reading and commenting on the blogs I like! I will check your list now for new-to-me blogs. Thanks, Neil!
