It is possible to buy false man buns that you attach to the back of your scalp with hidden hair clips but I want a real one. Apart from Pope Francis, shown above, several other mass media celebrities have been experimenting with man buns. They are all trendsetters in the world of male grooming. See below...

Buns
I don't know what the point of a man bun is but I think I am going to have one anyway. The thing about them is that they are very cool and if a man doesn't have one, he is deemed to be an old-fashioned fuddy duddy. It is a little known fact that many of the great stone heads on Easter Island used to have what are known as "top knots" - carved from red volcanic "tufa" stone. Perhaps that is where the idea of the man bun came from.

Many men lose their hair as they grow older. For example, 39% of British men are bald, 38% of American men and 33% of Australian men. That's an awful lot of men and why should they be denied the opportunity to follow the man bun fashion? That would be discriminatory and hurtful. Fortunately, knitters over at "Etsy" have found a solution - the man bun hat. It allows bald men to mingle unnoticed with the hip man bun crowd...

You can have your man bun but count me out.
ReplyDeleteYou ain't cool grandpaw!
DeleteMy husband has a lot of very white hair of which he is very proud, he hates getting it cut.. he went to a barber, here not long after we moved here and vowed he'd never go there again as he cut it very short, shorter he reckoned than when joined the army age 15
ReplyDeleteSure it wasn't a poodle parlour?
DeleteI think I'll take the man bun hat!
ReplyDeleteCoward!
DeleteI'll have one of those please. Sunak's bun quite suits him.
ReplyDeleteYou mean you want the knitted bun? Do you want a chocolate one?
DeleteI don't do brown. A multi coloured one will do nicely.
DeleteMan buns are absolutely not cool
ReplyDeleteMost men like lady buns.
DeleteThe young man, J, who lives with the old man, A, next door to me, across the lobby, has a man bun. He pulls up his hair into a tight little knot on top of his head, but recently I saw him with his hair down. OMG!! Long and thick and wavy and so shiny! He has beautiful hair! My Grandson S also has a man bun, but when loose his hair is so tightly curled it is springy as well as long and very thick.
ReplyDeleteYou are clearly an expert on man buns Elsie!
DeleteFunnily enough, Trump's looks are indeed greatly improved by his new trendy hairstyle! I have never understood how any woman can vote for him, but now I see what they mean... :-D
ReplyDeleteWhen did you last visit your optician?
DeleteOh dear. No chance of P having a man bun now that I have given him an all over buzz cut. I wonder if he could buy a stick on bun?
ReplyDeleteJust be patient. Order him to grow a clump of hair out at the back ready to be woven into a man bun in about a year's time. He will look so cool you'll be pleased to show him off on Strand Street.
DeleteI'm not sure I've ever seen anyone who looks good with a man bun.
ReplyDeleteNor me. It's just sheep following the flock.
DeleteDepends on the man.
DeleteA bun would be okay on a baker's head - advertising his trade.
DeleteA lot of men look good with the bun. There are some who wouldn't, for instance both of my exes would look ridiculous. I think the buns are better on younger men.
DeleteSteve, just because you and I can't have a man bun, doesn't mean they look bad. I try to not be the jealous type.
DeleteDuring COVID I went a couple of years without getting my hair cut (what is left of it.) In the morning I would wash it, tie it up on top of my head, and when I got home in the afternoon and let it down, it would still be wet in the middle. I had hair down to my shoulders. It was a lot of work. My barber disappeared - I need to find someone new.
ReplyDeleteI hope that The Sweet Bear does not read that last remark!
DeleteThere's a guy who works at Costco here whose head is shaved very short on the sides but his head is very long on the top. He wears that part up in a man bun and it looks pretty cool. I've seen him without the bun and his hair is quite thick and long. He has beautiful hair. I've always fancied a man with long hair.
ReplyDeleteI think long hair on men looks good but it needs to be well kept. As for that image of trump, OMG, too funny.
ReplyDeleteExactly my thoughts, Pixie!
DeleteWhat about an Arthur Scargill comb back?
ReplyDeleteYou were very kind to Trump and gave him far more hair than he has, but his comb over would be a good length to make a bun.
ReplyDeleteIf not for the Pope I would have doubted my eyes...
ReplyDeleteI shall look forward with great anticipation to the photo of you with your man bun!
ReplyDeleteIn order to gather enough hair for a man bun, you will be dangerously close to having a mullet which is still a social taboo in this part of the world.
