As last week's "Quiztime" proved so popular, here's a second edition with questions taken from "The Hammer and Pincers" Quiz on Sunday night. I had to modify the sculpture question for foreign visitors to this blog. Answers given in the "Comments" section but no peeping and please, no use of smartphones! DeleteFour for me (Zurich, oil, en croute with an "e", lol, and the Angel of the North). I knew Paula Abdul but my geezer brain couldn't come up with her name :D
ReplyDeleteHow many did you get, sir, if I may ask?
Yes. You may ask. With my team on Sunday we got nine of these. We did not know the Paula Abdul one.
DeleteWell done all of you! I suppose with more heads the odds of this are greater. How many did you personally know? Just curious, not trying to put you on the spot so feel free to pass on answering.
DeleteI only knew 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8.
ReplyDeleteDo I get an extra point for knowing the manager of the foundry who was involved in making The Angel of the North?
Yes, of course. That's how quizzes work. I got an extra point for having visited Kurt Cobain's house in Aberdeen, Washington Stare (Nirvana).
DeleteSeven for me this time.
ReplyDeleteCheck it!
DeleteWow. I knew most of those. Is there a prize?
ReplyDeleteYes. A night in a Travel Lodge with Boris Johnson.

DeleteOK, I've looked at your answers now. How do we know the first one, "Lincoln green"? Is it from a book, or perhaps specified in the legend? I'm curious about the source of that. Did the quizmasters explain?
ReplyDeleteThe quiz questions are produced by an organisation called "Red Tooth" based in Barlborough near Chesterfield. Each week they send new quiz questions to hundreds of pubs across the country. Of course the bar staff who read the questions out cannot answer supplementary questions. Without pondering, we all "knew" that the answer was "Lincoln green" - probably from the old TV show "The Adventures of Robin Hood" (1955 -1959).
DeleteI got 7 this time around thanks to my love of all things Robin Hood and fresh off of watching "The Wrath of the Titans" this past weekend.
ReplyDelete1 Lincoln Green
2 Zurich
5 Nirvanna
6 Poseidon
8 Angel of the North(lucky guess here)
9 Paula Abdul
10 Three Men and a Little Lady
Seven out of ten! Pretty good Edgar!
DeleteI'd be useless in a pub quiz team. I knew Poseidon and the Angel of the North (but had the latter not been an a/b/c question, I'd probably have struggled to remember...)
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I suspect you need extra tuition young lady! At least you are honest!
