Japan

For some reason, "Yorkshire Pudding" has recently attracted a lot of visitors from Japan. They never leave comments but I know that they are there. My "Stats" say so. As usual top of last month's "pageviews" table came The United Kingdom, followed closely by The USA but in third place came Japan. Once again I had no visitors from Burkina Faso.

Now I have never been to Japan but from what I know of it, it sounds like a wonderful country that combines ancient beliefs with modernity and enterprise. I also realise that there is much natural beauty in Japan's 6852 islands.

Being a hospitable kind of fellow I would like to extend a  special welcome to all Japanese visitors:-
日本からのすべての訪問者へようこそ
from ヨークシャー・プディング
If any wealthy Japanese people are reading this post, I have a proposition for you. If you pay for my return flight to Japan, I will be happy to stay in your house and allow you to give me a taste of your amazing country. In return, I promise to create several blogposts about my Japanese experience. This will no doubt help to improve western understanding of Japan and boost tourism. I know that it is an offer too good to refuse so I await competing replies from which I shall select the overall winner.

  1. Japan is a country well worth visiting in my opinion.

    1. Are they characters in an animated film by Disney?

  3. And we await those offers, too. Sounds like a good blog post in the making. Well, actually a second good blog post (or more).

I was reading a Japanese cultural blog not long ago and learned that many Japanese girls dye their hair because their natural beautiful black hair is seen by men to be a sign that they are traditional women and eager to marry. The girls don't want to get married. Hence, hair of every colour of the rainbow.

    1. Well those young women are spoilsports! My heart goes out to the unrequited suitors - all those spurned Japanese men!

    1. I could extend the same offer to Canadian visitors.

  5. As I think you know, my daughter spent two years teaching in Japan. She travelled the country a lot and found it an amazing and beautiful place, but also rather eccentric so it should suit you down to the ground.

    1. You are right. I guess I am beautiful and ever so slightly eccentric.

  6. Although I have never been outside of the uk, Japan is one place I would love to visit. Everything looks so clean and the people seem very courteous. Also of course they are very creative. I see some wonderful crafts coming out of Japan.

  7. Perhaps you could take up sumo wrestling, Yorkie!

Or gather cherry blossoms during cherry blossom time, but you'll have to be quick...cherry blossom time only lasts a week, two at the most! Late March into early April...get a move on'!!!

And I'm not cursing when I say this...Fukushima and Fukioka are two of the best viewing areas....

    1. Fukushima and Fukioka to you too madam!
I shall not be taking up sumo wrestling as I gave up wearing nappies when I was a baby!
Have you been to Japan? I am aware that Australia has strong links with Japan and I guess that in the heyday of your career in tourism you will have dealt with a number of Japanese visitors.

    2. No, I've never been to Japan, Yorkie. I've never been a traveller, as such. Unlike so many others, I never had the desire to do so. I never caught the travelling bug. I managed only to go as far as Singapore, Papua New Guinea and New Zealand...all to do with my tenure on Hinchinbrook Island.

  8. Interestingly I have had a comment or two and they have been from real bloggers not spammers.

    1. I guess the people who commented on this post before you could be spammers - such is my gullibility.

  9. There is a Japanese blogger who has occasionally been leaving comments on my blog in the past couple of months or so. I have not checked my blog stats in a long time and don't know whether there are non-commenting readers from that country, too.
You don't know Jenny Woolf's blog, do you? She often comments on my blog. She lives in London and is a travel writer, but has also written a book about Lewis Carroll.
She has been to Japan (a few times, I think) and her posts with pictures and descriptions of the country make for a fabulous read, interesting and entertaining.

    1. Thank you for the tip Meike. I hope you are feeling better after the nasty cold that kept you off work at the start of this week.

  10. I dream of going to Japan just to eat. I could think of a thousand other things to do and see but food, their food, is what I dream of the most.

    1. There's a style, a simple sophistication about Japanese cuisine but their general attitude to sea life is very reprehensible in my view.

  11. I recommend that the minute you arrive you announce to everyone with whom you come in contact that you find their country’s general attitude to sea life very reprehensible. It should make your visit ever so much more interesting.

    1. I think that that would be most unwise. Instead I will say that to Japanese TV reporters just as I am about to leave their country.
