Times

Parents who boast about their children's achievements are so tiresome - don't you think?  Remember last weekend when I bragged about our Ian's appearance in "The Mail on Sunday" and Michael Ball's Radio 2 chat show? Well here we go again.

Yesterday, Ian and Henry appeared on the front page of "The Times". Okay, it was just a little picture down in the corner  but it was still the front page of possibly the most famous newspaper on the planet. The corner picture had a little strapline - "The vegan Jamie Olivers".
Saturday's "Times" contains a lifestyle magazine and within this there was a three page article about "Bosh!" along with eight recipes from their imminent cookbook. The main text suggested that the time-served  interviewer was somewhat bemused by "Bosh!" and their infectious enthusiasm for plant-based cookery. She was like a zoologist observing primates.

Even so it was all useful coverage. As they say, there's no such thing as bad publicity and later in the same magazine, "Bosh!" are listed as the third most influential force in promoting  veganism around the world. That list was headed by Beyoncé, the famous American singer-songwriter.

Okay. Parental ego trip over.

  7. Very impressive, and definitely brag-worthy! I am no fan of such comparisons like "The vegan Jamie Olivers". They are nothing like him, and he nothing like her. Same goes for places, "Paris of the East" (as Beirut used to be called decades ago) and so on. Ian and his friend are unique and do not need to be compared with anyone else.
    Well done, Bosh!

    2. Librarian, I don't think you understand how marketing works. Being called the Vegan Jamie Oliver (he's a guy, by the way, not a girl) is very, very good for business. Making comparisons such as that, especially such a favorable one, helps customers sort through the barrage of information that comes at us from all sides.

I read the Times article on line and it was very nicely done. I didn't know the boys were You Tube stars! Their success is something you and Mrs. Pudding should be very proud of. Thank you for keeping us informed about what's the hottest thing in Brit cuisine theses days!

    3. Wow! Reading the article on Long Island - that's almost surreal. They are scheduled to appear on a famous American TV show at the end of May. I am not permitted to say any more at this juncture.

    4. Hello Vivian, thank you for explaining. I know J. Oliver is a man, it was a typo due to my inability of typing as well on my ipad as on a proper jeyboard - sorry!
Yes, I know the basics of marketing, having worked in the advertising business for almost 10 years, and I know such comparisons may help some consumers. I simply never liked them, and they rather put me off instead of making a product more attractive. Same with products promoted by celebrities; I have nothing against George Clooney et al, but their faces associated with a certain brand of coffee, perfume or whatever does not make me want to buy it, quite the contrary.

    5. I am the same Meike. If I see a celebrity connected with a product I am already thinking "No way!" It's insulting to our intelligence.

  8. You're not bragging; you're a proud parent. They worked - and still work - very hard! They deserve it. Well done!
I can now also brag to my husband, that I know a blogger whose son is famous! ;)

  11. You have every right to boast. Don't stop!

For the boys to tagged "The Vegan Jamie Olivers" is a hell of a compliment to both of them. I'd be bursting with pride, too, if I were in your shoes (even though they probably would be a bit big for me).

I'm a huge Jamie Oliver fan...always have been. I love the way Jamie cooks and handles food. He cooks with gusto...good, simple, hearty, healthy food. And obviously Ian and Henry's vegan recipes and styles of cooking matches that of the master. :)

  12. If you can't brag about your children and grand-children then who can you brag about? I no longer get a daily paper but I read The Times at Uni (students got it for 6d) and then after converting to The Guardian fell out with the over the Dag Hammarskjöld affair. However when I'm in hospital (which has been all to often in the last 7 months) the only thing I seem to do is read The Times from cover to cover (discarding the sports pages of course because they don't cover croquet) and do the Mind Games. Ironically I must have missed both articles by only a few days. Then I could have shared your pride even more.
