Mariann

Mariann Budde
Bishop of Washington
Washington National Cathedral
January 21st 2025

"Let me make one final plea, Mr President. Millions have put their trust in you. As you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God. In the name of our God, I ask you to have mercy upon the people in our country who are scared now. There are gay, lesbian and transgender children in Democratic, Republican and independent families who fear for their lives.

And the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings; who labor in our poultry farms and meat-packing plants; who wash the dishes after we eat in restaurants and work the night shift in hospitals – they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes, and are good neighbors. They are faithful members of our churches, mosques and synagogues, gurdwara, and temples.

Have mercy, Mr President, on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away. Help those who are fleeing war zones and persecution in their own lands to find compassion and welcome here. Our God teaches us that we are to be merciful to the stranger, for we were once strangers in this land.

May God grant us all the strength and courage to honor the dignity of every human being, speak the truth in love, and walk humbly with one another and our God, for the good of all the people of this nation and the world."

“The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater. She brought her church into the world of politics in a very ungracious way. She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart...She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!” - Donald J. Trump (aka Satan).

  1. There is no word that I can think of that accurately describes how despicable he is. Good on the Bishop, she stood up for the people who need a voice, the people Jesus talked about helping.

  4. Trump can't stand having to listen to someone call him out. He couldn't say anything while he was in church because he knew the optics were bad, but somehow he thinks saying it online makes him ... anonymous? "You can't see me because I'm online" just like a toddler who puts a blanket over their head and thinks no one can see them.

  5. His standard answer to anything he does not like or understand. They (and we I guess) will have to get used to hearing such words for the next four years.

  6. Something to also note is that Bishop Budde is receiving death threats from the MAGA faithful.

  9. The trouble is you can't make it up with that man. He is just without any decency whatsoever. I think Bishop Budde is a very brave woman, and I trust her show of strength and courage will inspire others.

  10. A person with great courage and conviction. I admire her courage. A courage shared by so very few who feel the same but are afraid of repercussions.

  11. It is hard to understand what she said was actually wrong. I was very pleased to hear her speech, and I hope more people in power stand up against the dreadful wrongs that have already happened, with more to come.

  12. Well, what sort of reply do you expect from a totally moronic idiot, surely nothing compassionate or decent?
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the entire media refused to publish anything this fool said and there were no photographs of his hideous face - nothing, anywhere! Just wipe him off the face of the earth and we could all get on with our lives.

  13. Criticize the pardoning of a criminal given 12 years for beating up a policeman who then had a heart attack and you are a bad person and a lover of the police.

  14. Any plea for decency with DT will fall on deaf ears. He has none.

  15. At least she tried.
