Trumpton

Even before his inauguration, Trump said he was a brutal dictator.

Meanwhile, on the official Donald Trump website, they are promoting sales of a souvenir Christmas tree ornament - a bargain at only $149. How can any Christmas be complete without one of them dangling from one's tree? You might think I am kidding you but this is not a joke!

This is the advertising copy straight from Trump's website:-

Get in the Christmas spirit with your very own Make America Great Again Red Cap Collectible Ornament. Made of brass and finished in 24 karat gold, this ornament is sure to make any tree stand out.
You really could not make this stuff up. Imagine a political leader who happily uses "Twitter" to communicate with the world. Even if it had been available in his heyday, it is unthinkable that Fidel Castro would  have ever used it. Some philosophies need more than one hundred and forty characters.

Here's Trump's compassionate and diplomatically sensitive tweet for today:-

  1. Perhaps Castro should have....he didn't do much for his own people.

    2. Fidel Castro did more good things for his own people than any of the US presidents have ever done for theirs. Cuba has one of the best health systems in the world along with housing and education projects. You need to get your facts right Lee before sounding off!

    3. You are a brave man Heron. Don't you know you are playing with fire?

    4. Truth must prevail and words must be spoken. Then let Lee who "seeks truth and wisdom" (she says so in her Google description) answer for herself eh ?

    5. I agree, YP and Heron. Gregg and I talk about Cuba and Castro regularly, and while I may catch flak for saying this, I was saddened to hear of Castro's passing. How could I call him an evil man when our government here in the US has done much worse around the world, and done much less for its citizens?

And I admit that I laugh to think of all the US presidents he outlived/outlasted...until he finally died of old age. I read somewhere he said once "I'll never rest until America destroys itself"....then we elected Trump...and Castro promptly died!

    6. Now I am getting really, really nervous. When Lee wakes from her antipodean slumber there will be hell to pay! Heron and Jennifer, get your helmets on and take shelter behind your sofas!

    1. It might be worth ordering one Sue. Keep it in its box in a pristine condition and in twenty years time it will be worth $1000.

    2. In 20 years only the 1% will have $1000 to waste.

    3. You could ask Bob to buy you one for Christmas but the red "Make America Great Again" caps are much cheaper.

  9. With Castro dead and Trump about to take power, I wonder what US-Cuba relations will be like now? At least two people have recently said to me that fifty years from now history books will read "the United States of America's 2016 presidential election was a key event that led to the beginning of world war three.." The Trump Christmas bauble leaves me....... speechless.

    1. President Obama has been a peacemaker in spite of everything. He reached out to Cuba and we saw green shoots of change emerging but Trump will trample them.

  11. I haven't seen one of these yet (thankfully) but it would not surprise me if one of my in-laws buys one. My wife's sister has already promised (threatened?) to purchase a "Deplorables" t-shirt.

Sigh...these are the people I have to deal with. Every weekend. And every holiday.

    1. I didn't know what you meant by "Deplorables" Chris. I imagined it was an animated film, like "The Incredibles" but now I have researched it. I think Hillary Clinton was most unwise to make such a remark - it may have been true but it didn't assist her cause.

  14. There are going to be a lot of disappointed people in the US. Trump campaigned on saying what he though people wanted to hear, and did that very effectively. People drank the Kool Aid. There won't be a big beautiful Mexican funded wall, No special prosecutor for Clinton, no return to water boarding and worse, no temporary ban on Muslims until the powers that be can figure out what the heck is going on, no economy growth of at least 6%, no bringing back all those jobs from China, Mexico etc.

Trump has already rolled back on getting rid of all of Obamacare and has said prosecuting Clinton is not a priority.
