Yuletide

Late yesterday afternoon - Christmas Eve - a short drive up on to the moors. A car splashes its way out of Yorkshire and into Derbyshire as our world's golden orb sinks into the west. Soon afterwards, I turned towards the full moon and noticed that an estate car had pulled over by Ringinglow Road. The daughter got out with her camera to capture the setting sun, perhaps not even realising that behind her our planet's timeless silver satellite was already casting its nocturnal spell.
It is 3.40pm on Christmas Day. Frances and I have been relieved of kitchen duties as Shirley and Ian beaver away, preparing our feast. Aromas of roast turkey and onion gravy mingle with chestnut stuffing and boiled vegetables. Soon I shall  be stuffing myself like Henry VIII - a turkey leg in one hand and a flagon of wine in the other. Happy Yuletide!

  1. I'm off to Bob and Anna's this morning for brunch and gift opening. I think I'm going to love this changing of the guard. Have a wonderful, peaceful day.

    1. I hope all went well at Bob and Anna's place. It's nice that they live nearby and not on the other side of the country...or the planet!

hope you enjoyed the stuffing, Yorkie...the turkey stuffing and the stuffing of yourself! I can hear the satisfied groans way down this way. :)

I'm sure you had a wonderful Christmas Day surrounded by your loved ones...and I hope the happiness continues....indefinitely. Take care...and an antacid, perhaps! Better still - toss the antacid - have a beer instead!!

    Enjoy! :)

    1. I doubt that our northern weather was as nice as sunny Florida but yeah, nice.

  5. You're a lucky guy to have someone prepare the feast. I'm still looking to catch sight of the moon.

  6. The view of the full moon from my kitchen window was great, too, although of course nowhere near as spectacular as your pictures.
Our Christmas Eve dinner is traditionally very modest: spuds salad (made by my Dad, who makes the best spuds salad in the world) and Wiener sausages. The more elaborate food was when we had roast goose with chestnut stuffing in November, and today at my parents' Christmas brunch.

    1. I am surprised that you had such a simple Christmas meal Ambassador. Next year I shall make up a food parcel for you and your family. There will be a label on it - "FAMINE RELIEF".

    1. It may not look too good in the northern hemisphere right now Helen but summer is creeping back now that we have passed the shortest day. It is good to even have family Helen - some people are not so lucky... Belated Xmas greetings to you and Big T.
