Jock

This great picture was taken earlier this month by an acquaintance of mine - Mr Walter Baxter (aka The Baxatron). Walter lives in the town of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders but the photo was taken many miles away in Fort William. I have blogged about Walter before. He is a brilliant photographer, specialising in capturing images of his home area. If his pictures were ever brought together in a glossy tourist brochure, The Scottish Borders would be inundated with visitors. See Walter's recent geograph submissions here.

    1. Perhaps you could get a pushchair for Tess.

    1. Usually, those carriages are for very elderly dogs with mobility issues. I know one senior, who is blind and lame on two legs. He goes out everyday to check on his neighbourhood and get his ears scratched.

    2. Walter did not say if the dog had mobility issues but that makes sense. A lively dog wouldn't sit for long in one of those buggies.

  3. A good photographer. Not everyone likes weddings, but he can photograph anything.

    1. If Walter knew your work as a photographer, he'd be chuffed with your praise.

  4. When I was a kid a true-blue red-headed Scotsman named "Jock" boarded in a home across the street from us. Perhaps with his red hair he should've been called "Bluey" and I suppose in some quarters he was. "Bluey" is an Aussie slang for a redhead.

My mother was a natural redhead...but no one dared call Elma "Bluey"!!

Jock used to play the drums in the local Scots Pipe Band. He used to play the tenor drum, using the soft mallets...and boy, oh, boy...could he play those drums and twirl those mallets! He was wonderful to watch.

    1. Was his surname Strap by any chance?
I have my own Jock memories. It was the nickname of my grandmother's second husband and the preferred name of the lead guitarist in the rock group I belonged to in my late teens.

  5. Great photo. I think Buddy would quite like to travel like that, after an initial burst of energy he quickly gets tired on his walks.

    1. I sometimes wish someone would push me around but I guess that will happen in due course!

  6. Poor dog! I am sure he'd much rather have a good sniff around the territory while walking on his own four little legs. But as 50 and counting said in the comment above, he probably has mobility issues.
Going to check out Mr Baxter's blog now.

    1. If you were a dog you'd like to have a good sniff round but I would like to chase frisbees and bark madly.

  7. Poor Jock, he does look miserable.

  8. That IS a great picture. But yeah, the dog doesn't look too happy.

  9. The Baxatron takes wonderful photos. I had a quick look at the link. Great landscapes and some quirky and humorous people shots.

    1. It's easy to pass an hour looking through The Baxatron's back catalogue.
