Poem

Poetic Justice

Evidence sifted,
Witnesses interviewed,
Transcripts filed,
No need for cross examination...
We poets
We can handle it all -
Judge, jury, executioner.

Please stand.
I sentence you to sentences
To tired  old words in chains,
Mixed metaphors
Similes like serpents.

Your past offences
Have been taken into account
How you were lost for words
How you mangled them...
How you cast them on the wind
Like dandelion seeds.

How do you plead?
Your guilt.
It is written in your face
Like cracks
In window glass.

No place to hide.
No place to run.
What’s done is done.

Court adjourned.

  1. And not just poets. Or perhaps we are all poets in our hearts but have not the minds to express our hearts' thoughts.

    1. Your second sentence is itself like a poem Graham...

      PERHAPS

      Perhaps
      We are all
      Poets
      In our hearts
      But have not
      The minds
      To express
      Our hearts' thoughts.

SILENCE! Silence in my court I say! Men at arms take that woman down!

    1. See that little box on the top bar Terry? Left hand corner. Type the word poem in, press the search icon and you will be able to read other poems I have created in the past.

    1. As I know that you - like The Weaver of Grass - have a positive attitude to poetry, your signal of approval is gratefully received.

  6. You covered it all. ...and I feel the guilt over using poetic justice. Did you use this with your classes?

    1. Hey, I wrote the poem this morning Red! And do you know what"? It was sparked by the fact that you used the title "Poetic Justice" for your recent blogpost. It just got some cogs turning .

  7. I've stayed off fences for quite some time now; ever since the day I was sitting on the fence with one leg either side. Under the noon day sun I fell asleep and off the fence I did slip. I've no defense for my lack of commonsense.

    I like your poem, Yorkie.
    ;)
By the way...where was York's Hire?

    1. York's Hire was in the city of York of course. I believe Queen Sland once rented a motor scooter from them.
