Heron

Isn't the blogosphere wonderful? Well...it can be. Last month I posted a photograph of  a grey heron I had spotted in a local park. He was patiently and threateningly stalking prey in an old millpond.

A visitor called Jan who lives in Destin, Florida spotted the photo and asked me if she could use it to develop a painting. I agreed as long as Jan promised to send me a photo of her finished work.

Well that photo arrived last week and here it is....
May I hereby applaud Jan's artistry and thank her for using my photo as the basis for a fine painting. I am sitting here with a pyramid of small Yorkshire puddings feeling as smug as a chubby tax exile on a British Virgin Islands beach.

    1. Jan has a surname but I didn't have her permission to use it.

    1. Smugness is usually an unpleasant human trait but I think this smugness is okay.

  3. And sitting there sipping on a Mumbai Topaz, no doubt! ;)

I think it's wonderful Jan from Destin, Florida used your photo of the heron as the subject of her painting, Yorkie. I, like you, would be feeling pretty thrilled about it, too, if this had been requested of me. Great photo and great painting. :)

It was the heron's destiny to be a part of photographic and canvas artistry history. Well done to you both...and to the heron.

    1. I am not drinking a Mumbai Togaz, I am drinking a Bombay Slammer mixed with a Madras Bomber and a Calcutta Explosion while I toast Jan Van Gogh.

    1. "Chuffing" - that's a good word. I thought it was a small warbler.

  7. That's great! Remember how the Florida native in me was marveling that herons are also found in England? And now a Florida painter uses a photo of an English heron as a basis for her work! It's kind of funny, really, at least to this Florida boy now living in England. :)

    1. And there was me thinking that all Floridians are like comatose beached whales in swimsuits.
