Keith

Keith? No I am not talking about Keith Kline (a.k.a. Red) who resides in Red Deer, Alberta. I am referring to Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones. I believe they were playing a concert in Hyde Park, London this very day.

Keith is greatly admired by Mary Moon in Lloyd, Florida.and by thousands of other fans of The Rolling Stones. He will be seventy nine years old later this year and his life story is etched in his face. So many experiences and so many lines. What a hell of a life he has led and the joy he has brought to millions of fans through his music is incalculable.

Today I came across this time lapse video in which a skilled and confident oil painter creates an image of Keith Richards. It is really quite mesmerising but I should warn you that the video is thirteen minutes long. If you haven't got thirteen minutes to spare, you might want to do some jumping along.

Jump along I did but what an amazing piece of art. Long before Freddie, Mick really was the stage prancer personified. No one has done it better. He is not someone I thought would live to be such an age and we are lucky he has.

    1. Mick will be seventy nine in July next year. How come he is still able to prance about?

    2. Actually, he will be seventy-nine on this July 26. I think he is still able to prance about because his father was a physical education teacher and Mick took fitness to heart at a young age. I view him as an amazing athlete.

    3. You are right Ms Moon. I appreciate the correction.

Mick visits a place called Gym daily. I don't know it but apparently visiting it is very good for your longevity.

  2. You know, I don't think I idolize him as much as his life story touches my heart. It's hard to explain. I will probably watch that beautiful video. I am obviously not the only person fascinated by the human being who is Keith Richards. Did you know that there's a new documentary series on BBC iPlayer and BBC Two about the Stones? It's called "My Life As A Rolling Stone." I can't seem to find a way to watch it here in the states yet but you surely can.

    1. I have changed "idolised" to "greatly admired".

    2. Okay. I watched the video and I do not think the artist, although extremely talented, got the eyes right. In his portrait, Keith's eyes have a look of despair which is absolutely not what I see in the photograph.

    3. I tend to agree with you. It is a close likeness but not "spot on".

    1. It's like a map of Richardsland.

    2. I like that term and shall nick it for my own use. The map of Meikeland shows a few lines, too.

  4. The Rolling Stones are an unbelievable group. When they started there were only predictions that they wouldn't last very long. It's amazing that they are approaching their 80's and still doing well.

    1. Did your parents name you after Keith Richards?

    2. Hey, I'm before Keith Richards so I'm sure his parents named him after me!

  5. The last time I saw him play was around 1969 (?). It was at a free concert in Hyde Park. Brian Jones had died and they released a large box of butterflies. I remember Jagger wearing a sort of white frock. There were lots of Hells Angels around acting like bullies. I probably enjoyed it, but not specially.

    1. Oh yes. I remember that frock. Reminded ,me of what ceremonial Greek soldiers wear when on guard.

  7. About 6 years ago 'Keef' took over BBC4 dusk till dawn for three nights: Keith Richards' List Weekend, replacing the usual schedule with his own selection from the past.

    1. He is a bit like Bob Dylan in that respect - very knowledgeable about other people's music.

  8. It is also extraordinary how people of our age group still manage to take the limelight. Never say Die seems to be the motto.

    1. It is amazing how many of today's young people have embraced the music of what should be "the past".

  10. How very different his life has been (and still is) to that of my parents, who are almost the same age - my Mum will be 78 next month, and my Dad turned 80 in January. The same generation, they probably had some of the worries and joys of their youth in common.

    1. Just think, your father could have been the German equivalent of Mick Jagger - prancing about the stage and beating his tambourine while pouting at the audience.

  11. Interesting to watch the painting develop. I think it starts looking like Keith Richards right around the 3-minute mark. I was intrigued when the artist laid that grid over the face at one point early on, I assume to keep the features in line.

  12. Artists are fascinating! I like how he can paint a few lines and already we start to see the face. That is a special talent indeed. The color mixing is interesting, altho, I might not have chosen so much green. Of course, I couldn't do any of that so who am I to judge!?! :)
