Lambs

Yesterday - another walk. This time I was an hour away from home in Staffordshire. I parked in the village of Warslow. It was a warm day so your intrepid reporter was clad in khaki shorts that revealed his muscular legs to all and sundry. A sunhat was also required as the golden orb seared down upon the earth. Add in the black "Carling" lager polo shirt I won at the pub and some size 11 boots and you have a picture of pure country style. Apparently, "Vogue" are after me to do a photoshoot.

Windows were open, airing houses as the lovely River Manifold glistened and tumbled on its way to meet The River Dove and later the Trent. Towards the end of the five hour trek I trudged up Ecton Hill - once the site of the world's most productive copper mine. It made The Dukes of Devonshire even richer than before and lined the hulls of hundreds of wooden Royal Navy vessels with the rustproof metal.

I took a hundred photographs yesterday but the pictures I have chosen to share with you are all of lambs I saw along the way. When first born, lambs will often show little fear of humans as they gambol and frolic. They were enjoying yesterday's sunshine, discovering the very joy of just being alive. I especially enjoyed watching the little flock of lambs in the yard at Lower Wigginstall. Now there's a name to conjure with.

  1. I hope ewe didn't look like mutton dressed up as lamb, Yorkie...dressed in those stylish shorts, polo shirt, boots and sun hat. Ewe could've taken a selfie of ewe for us!

The lambs and sheep certainly are looking very interested indeed!

    1. If thought balloons had been emerging from the lambs' heads, they would all have read, "Wow! Look at that cool fashionista with the camera!"

    3. Gucci and Versace can keep their hands off me! I am heterosexual. If they don't stand back I shall biff them with my Yorkshire fists that work like mighty pistons when called into action.

  2. Sounds like a very...stylish outing.

I love the lambs, though I worry a little about what the future holds for them! I hope they're wool sheep and not meat sheep!

    1. Baaa! When my daughter was little we had to avoid the word "lamb" as far as food was concerned but when we said that the meat was a "nasty daddy sheep" then she had no qualms about eating it.

  3. I see one is a member of the G8. If it goes then there is hope of some sense from the next meeting.
Happy pictures and happy me in a few months....I'll get the mint sauce ready.

    1. Well-spotted! I bet that lamb has more backbone than David Cameron. Maybe you could have him with some mint sauce instead.

    2. I think it is Ozzy Osbourne goes to G8 meetings. Only Dithery Dave would put Ozzy in charge of anything other than a microphone.
I'd get pig poisoning if I ate any bit of Cameron. Pigs carry little worms in their flesh so have to be given plenty of heat. I suspect most Conservatives are similarly affected, infected or disaffected. The French eat pink pork. It hasn't done them any harm..........! The only thing it has done is make them speak a bit funny but Liverpuddland talk a strange tongue and they don't eat raw pork.

    3. Your logic is as, as usual, highly advanced Adrian. You are a modern day Sophocles.

    1. In my mind I had the idea that the hills of Lewis and Harris were home to many hundreds of sheep.

    2. There probably are overall YP but there used to be thousands in the townships surrounding this Bay alone. The decline of crofting is, I fear, terminal in many townships.

  6. Lambs in a lush green pasture make for a pleasant walk. 5 hours? That's great walk especially in such a costume!

    1. Five hours and I didn't sit down once until I walked into "The Greyhound Inn" in Warslow to order a pint of bitter shandy.

  7. Well YP, I have to say that you're a brave lad ! Does Shirley say "You're not going out looking like that are you?". Then you creep round the back, slide into the car and get her to open the garage doors so that you can drive off without being seen? Do you come home under the cover of darkness....
After all that, I hope you got your knees brown !
Nice pics of the little lambs.

    1. Shirley is normally at work when I venture out on one of my pleasant rambles so you can put your vivid imagination back in its box CG.

  9. Sounds like a very good walk or hike (what, to you, majes the difference?) and I guess it also means that neither your stylisly clad hips nor your bare knees gave you any trouble.

    1. My body carried me like a well-oiled machine. Walk/hike/ramble - I suppose there are subtle differences between these words. A walk is generally an easy-going journey from A to B, a hike suggests something a bit more demanding - more preparation and something of a slightly military nature. A ramble is more poetic - as if slightly aimless and free. However, in reality the words are usually interchangeable. The subtle differences tend to get lost along the way.
