Physiotherapy

Finally, on Tuesday, I got to see a physiotherapist about my knee. She was an attractive Asian lady called Rohini. She asked me to take my trousers off so I was mightily glad that I was wearing clean Marks and Spencers underpants.

She was efficient and focused. My knee has been a lot better in recent weeks but she accepted that I have had problems with it and she was surprised by the angle of my right knee when she asked me to lie flat on the couch. Instead of being flat it was resting at an angle of fifteen degrees.

She went through five or six simple exercises that I can do to strengthen the knee and combat discomfort. I was wishing I had had this advice back in early February when the pain and the limping began. After visiting my GP (doctor) seven weeks had elapsed before I got to see Rohini.

I will be seeing her again at the end of July. Already I am wondering which underpants to wear. Perhaps I shall go for the Homer Simpson boxer shorts that someone bought me three or four Christmases back. There's a word balloon emerging from his pursed mouth and in it the expression "Doh!" Undoubtedly, Rohini will be impressed by this stylish undergarment.

  1. Let's hope the exercises Robin has suggested bring you the ease and comfort you seek, Yorkie...and that you continue doing them between now and your July appointment.

    Away with pain!

  2. Physiotherapists can fix many things. I just wish the things they fix on me would stay fixed. I hope you get relief quickly. The hell with the boxers.

    1. The hell with the boxers? Red! I am surprised at you!

  3. Didn't she tell you to wear short pants the next visit?! Mine does. Or maybe she enjoys seeing the creativity of her clients. I do hope the exercises bring you relief. They are far more appealing than a knee operation.

    1. The exercises are simple and make sense. What colour short pants do you usually wear Jenny? I am think black and lacy!

  5. That's a long time between appointments, when I've had problems such as yours I've gone fortnightly until the joint has become much more stable.

    1. Yes but the main question is which underpants did you wear Derek? I am thinking a leopard print posing thong.

    2. Unfortunately I don't have your vivid imagination about such things YP, just a standard pair of Calvin Kleins.

  6. Let's hope those exercises do the trick and help your knee. It's a pity you had to wait so long for the appointment.

    1. If I had seen the exercises in an online video I could have been doing them Alphie. But better late than never.

  7. Anytime I have had physio for knees they insisted on me wearing shorts!
But you know, Homer Simpson boxers are nearly the same.

A knee that is bet when you try flatten the leg might suggest a rotated hip so maybe you could get her to check that

    1. That is a bent knee, not a bet one

    2. What colour shorts did you wear Kylie? Were they in effect hot pants? I hope I haven't got a rotated hip. Sounds most unpleasant.

  8. I'll be heading off to see a physio too as soon as I get home. Have to get these knees of mine working if we want to walk down mountains. Step are areal killer, especially going down.

    1. Perhaps you should have chosen a flat holiday destination Helen - like The Netherlands.

  9. I think that Jenny means short "trousers".. as they call trousers "pants" in US !! But do carry on with the black and lacy thoughts if it makes you happy. Haha. !!

    2. Wait, what ?? Permission not granted!

Yes I meant short trousers. Except we don't use the word trousers in Canada! We just call them shorts. I was trying to use the correct lingo :)

    3. Too much confusion. I shall stick with black and lacy.

  10. Knees take a long time to recover but do in the end, I twisted mine and it took 2 years but is fine now.
Bit of Chiropracter and Osteopath along the way.
My son on the other hand decided to go down the surgery route and bitterly regrets it.

    1. I hope your optimism is accurate Briony. These simple exercises make sense to me. Maybe I was just sitting around too long in the winter mornings. I have a feeling that might have brought on the problem. Gotta keep moving...hopefully without pain.

    2. It was sitting too much at the computer at work and at home that caused my back and hip problems a year ago. It's surprising what problems inactivity can lead to.

    3. Even though Rohina didn't question me about inactivity I rather think those winter morning sessions on the laptop/watching TV/reading is a significant contributory factor.

  11. She has probably seen every kind you could possibly wear and in any case - when you have seen one you have seen them all if you see what I mean.

    2. Be sure and wear your socks with sandals, YP - all women find that combination incredibly attractive!

    3. Okay. Thanks for your fashion advice Jenny. White ankle socks with sandals - how's that sound...baby!

    4. Sounds like you'll be safe from any moves being put on you, although black knee socks are slightly more awful :)

  13. I just can't imagine you in black and lacy. Think you'd better stick with the Homer Simpson boxers.

  14. A little brief with the British flag situated approprately would be my fashion advice for you. So happy you are feeling better.

Do your exercises as she told you. You need strong muscles to protect the bone and cartilage in the knee. I would think your walking so much would have made for strength in your legs but perhaps not.

    1. Hello Donna (Smith)! Okay I was always walking but I was also sitting in the mornings - sitting for too long. I think that's what ignited the pain.

  15. What about wearing your Eric Morecombe shorts, knee high socks and "Jesus" sandals ? With a fashion statement such as that, you're sure to impress her !
