Duet

Ray Davies with Jackson Browne in Oslo, Norway in 2015
When working behind the till at our local Oxfam shop, I will sometimes pick an album to put on the  CD player. Last Wednesday, I found an album called "See My Friends". It consists of several Ray Davies compositions performed with different recording artistes.

I was delighted to discover that one of these duets was with Jackson Browne - the Californian singer songwriter who is one of my top musical heroes. I stumbled across him at the very start of his career in the early seventies. What a joy to hear him singing timeless "Waterloo Sunset" with the song's legendary composer - Ray Davies of  The Kinks. 1. I had a crush on Ray Davies, back in the days when I could still hear music properly.

    1. How many years have you struggled with your hearing JayCee?

    2. About 20 years now. It started in my 30s but I only really noticed it in my early forties. Hereditary apparently. My younger sister is the same and now her daughter too.

    3. I wish I was a wizard. I would wave my magic wand and all three of you would have perfect hearing once more.

    5. JayCee....I have the same problem. Started in my 30's. Across the spectrum but a lot of my low frequency is gone, so men are much harder to hear than women. And music is not much fun anymore.

    1. Ray Davies was a brilliant songwriter. Do you still wear kinky boots Briony?

  3. My guy cannot decide if he loves Jackson or Van Morrison better but I think it's Jackson. I, personally, don't like sad songs much so I avoid them both ;)

    1. I like real songs that speak truly about human life and for me Jackson Browne is one of the true modern masters of that art.

  4. That is so good, probably better than the original version, with nice sustain harmonies on the guitar. What does Clint think?

    1. Clint only thinks about cute girl cars - like those little cream-coloured Fiats.

  6. I always loved the Kinks and especially Jackson Browne. We were fortunate to see Jackson Browne in concert in the 80s and it was one of the best concerts we've seen.

  7. Jackson Browne's production manager was a guest of mine at the resort on Hinchinbrook Island when I was manager thereof. Upon his departure to meet up with Jackson in Sydney at the start of his Aussie tour, Peyton and I sat beside each other on the flight south. He loved his stay on the island and said he would tell Browne all about it, and suggest, if he could find the time during his tour, he should stay a while at the resort. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. Peyton was a lovely fellow. He was from Pennsylvania originally. I still have his business card somewhere among my memorabilia.

When my ex and I managed the floating/cruising restaurant on the Noosa River, Browne's music featured regularly/nightly as the background music.

I've written about both these subjects previously on my blog.

    1. How lovely that you got kind of close to Jackson and it's even lovelier that his singing touched you.

  9. There`s nobody who even comes close to Ray Davies. Love to hear him with Alice Cooper.
